Teenager and sleepover

My ds 14 is totally loved up with his new girlfriend.
He says he want to go to her house for sleepover at weekend. Would you let him?
He says his other friend is going too, but I am not sure it's true.

I don't know the girl friend's family, ds says parent is a single parent, don't know what she does, so there could be a chance she won't be present.

It's my first child, so I really don't know what is the norm.

What would you do?

Nope. Maybe after I'd spoken with the parent and got to know her and been given assurances about separate rooms. But not until then.

whitehorsesdonotlie · 18/10/2021 19:28

No way. At 14? No.

My ds's knew not to even ask under 16...

No way would I let him go at 14! What on earth are you thinking to be even considering saying yes? It could lead to all kinds of questions or even accusations afterwards if any potential fooling around at that age got out of hand... just don't let him be in that situation in the first place...

Pinkbonbon · 18/10/2021 19:34

Absolutely not.

And I'd ask for the parents contact details to make sure they are keeping an adequate eye on things when my kid is over there too.

Borderterrierpuppy · 18/10/2021 19:35

No, unless you want him to have sex.

TheStraightTalkingOptimist · 18/10/2021 19:39

Teenagers will find a way to do what they want anyway.
If they are asking to sleep over chances are they are already intimate. My approach would be education. Have a frank, open and honest discussion with your teen about sex and relationships and then give them a little trust.
They will be more likely to talk to you in the future this way than if you just shut it down with no mutual consideration or leeway.

Ime condoning under age 'sleepovers' gives you no grounds to refuse to bend on other areas of controversy like alcohol underage and drug taking... My dc know I will not agree /support any other the above under age and are were respectful.. Some dc are 30 +now and haven't disowned me for my parenting decisions!

Stompythedinosaur · 18/10/2021 19:45

I would say no. I think it is too young and I'd be worried about them being pressured into a situation they weren't comfortable with. I don't really think most 14yos are mature enough to manage sexual relationships.

Autumnskyisgrey · 18/10/2021 19:58

Thank you. I really don't have a clue, my gut feeling was no. But I am not British, so I had no clue about what is the norm here.
Ds made me feel like I am an evil mum who has no clue about teenagers.
