In need of some Hygge

I'm probably 5 years behind fashion but I have missed the hight of the higgle craze a fear ago and now feel in great need of 'wellness and contentment', which higgle apparently is all about.

Please can you share your ways to a hyggeligt life? Cake

Tips on how to experience Higgle in an active and outdoorsy way would be amazing too, or is it all about cosy socks, candles and hot chocolate?

I don't know but I have this nice area of deck in my garden that I use for yoga - I have a lovely soft mat that I unroll, a candle that throws out patterns, some decorative mirrors and some Portuguese patterned tiles - its a really sensory experience out there, especially in the cold and rain (its covered). And I feel like a proper stereotype Grin but very lovely and good for me.

I like to turn on rain sounds (mobile app) for 20 minutes after turning the light out for bed. With a feather duvet over my ears, I can still hear it, and feel as though I'm in a cosy shelter not far from the open sky and pouring rain.

Today i was wfh and i spent a bit of my lunchtime clearing out the sitting room which is usually used as a junk point. I tidied, removed frayed cushion covers, ordered new velvet cushion covers and put some throws on the couches. In the afternoon DH and I sat down and had a cup of tea and we chatted about this and that. It was very relaxing especially as usualyl we are just on the go all the time.

Hygge is like a feeling. It’s different for everyone. To translate it into English terms to me it’s a similar feeling I get of feeling “home”, it’s a chair, by the fire, reading a book with the rain lashing down outside.

Some people like books for hygge, some like candles, some like socks, some like cosiness

For me it is all about being cozy. So tonight it’s raining outside, I have candles lit, comfortable pyjamas on with fluffy socks, a hot chocolate, my knitting and my audio book playing. I have the house to myself until 9.30 and I’m just about to settle down. I’ve got fresh sheets on the bed and an extra blanket on top. I get cold so easily. It’s that feeling of contentment knowing I’m warm and happy.

Ohh, just reading these gives me a sense of hygge! Smile keep them coming!

I do love the sound of your 'yoga deck' @GoWalkabout. I do love the sound of rain when falling asleep @MedusasButterDish, better still wind and rain. Fresh sheets are also super relaxing and love having the housetop myself.

I also love going for a long walk in autumn and then having a relaxed pub lunch.

I'm thinking I should get some speakers and install them around the house so that I can play Spotify as and when. AT the moment I just have one old digital radio, which I never use.

Any Tv show recommendations -apart from Downton-- or more active things that still give a sense of hygge and wellbeing?

A cold water swim preferably with others and a flask of home made soup afterwards on the beach or at the water side. Gives such a glow of well being but also something soothing about a good soup and the outdoor environment.

I had s cold swin this summer, @Churchlight. The metabolic kick it gave me was something else. Can't imagine winter!
