Any ideas from the teacher collective? DN is a first year primary ed student. Have bought her vouchers etc just wondered if there's anything which would be really helpful.

Thank you, didn't expect so many replies so soon! I have a copy if the Hutchinson's book which i could pass on to her. Love the idea of the marking stamps too. Are they a standard thing?

Not in all schools. In fact I don't know of any schools that still use them!

Schools will have marking policies that they need to follow

No schools would allow a teacher to use their own ‘well done’ stampers unless they were about to be rated inadequate. So don’t get stampers.

only supply teachers who are doing their own thing use them. I have a personal stamper that I can use for marking homework but that is because my school is fairly chill about things that go home.

Saying again- get her something nice. A bottle of perfume, a voucher, an afternoon tea for her and a friend for the holidays.

BlueShirtGirl · 19/10/2021 19:52

I always get DNephew personalised stampers for his Primary classes. He loves them as the kids love them!

The school I recently worked in had a strict marking policy that all teachers had to abide by.
Rosesareyellow · 19/10/2021 20:35

No to stamps. Definitely no to wasting your money on a Twinkl subscription - some schools subscribe for their teachers anyway and those that don’t can be quite ‘anti-TWINKL’ so she won’t get much use out of that.
I second getting her something to enjoy for herself - it can be hard to switch off as a teacher and as enthusiastic as she may be she will need some down time. Get something that will make her take time out - like a Spa day or a voucher for afternoon tea or something similar (tickets for Warner Brothers studio tour would have done nicely for me - is she a HP fan?)

Please dont Many schools are Twinkl free zones
Whatwouldnanado · 20/10/2021 13:08

I wonder why Twinkl isn't used? I had a look after the suggestion was made and it seems great.
She's a student primary teacher, on placement so just wanted to include a little something helpful with her birthday gift. I think a mug will be the safest option then. Have already bought her a voucher.

RamblingFar · 20/10/2021 13:22

I'd just go with extra vouchers. In reality they are probably more useful and wanted than anything else.

I have worked widely across my county and Twinkl is used in every school., there are some anal school types who insist on some kind of tortured bespoke resourcing production system for mistaken snobby reasons. Twinkl is excellent in many ways and is a life-saver to many a teacher needing help quickly; it does of course need to be mixed up with a wide variety of resourcing. Alot of teachers don't even admit to using it but they do. I have seen teachers copy and pasting from it to remove the logo. I did also recommend a thoroughly decent, upstanding and useful book.
Happylittlethoughts · 20/10/2021 19:25

Personalised stampers and stickers.
Jesus christ do not buy a mug !!!

NailsNeedDoing · 20/10/2021 19:30

Going against the grain, but ‘best teacher’ mugs (and similar) are so cliched I think every student teacher secretly looks forward to getting some. It’s like a right of passage. She’ll probably have had enough of it by the time she’s completed her nqt year though!

Whatwouldnanado · 20/10/2021 19:31

Bearnecessity thank you, as mentioned I actually have the book and plan to pass it on.

Pinkflipflop85 · 20/10/2021 19:35

No to marking stampers. She may not be allowed to use them.

No to Twinkl. As above - the school may already have a subscription or they may be anti twinkl.

Have a look at the positive teacher company. They have some gorgeous undated planners etc.

annabell22 · 20/10/2021 19:41

Personalised stickers if she's a primary or EYFS trainee - Miss X says well done, for example. Try superstickers.
