What time do your 5 year olds go to bed?

Just that really. DS is 5.5 and only just went to sleep despite going to bed just after 7.30. He is home educated so no school to get up for - tends to wake up around 8am most days.

But I feel like he goes to sleep so late compared to other kids his age! MIL was appalled and thought he should be in bed at 6.30 Confused.

He will quite happily go to bed at 7.30 after a decent bedtime routine but he reads, plays etc until he eventually falls asleep around 9.

He's fine during the day but I'm still worried it's too late/not enough sleep.

My (almost) 5 year old DS goes to bed around 7pm and wakes up between 6.30 and 7 am

3yr old 6.30pm into bed for story asleep by 7pm and up at 7am.

4yr old 6.45pm story asleep by 7.15pm up at 6.30am (doesnt matter what time she goes to sleep shes up at 6.30am) she will often ask to go to bed at 5pm.

6yr old who is autistic up to bedroom at 7.30pm to play, 8.30pm into bed to watch a film, 9.30pm story 10pm sleep, awake 7.30/8am. Its taken years to find a routine that works he used to be up until 2am but we discovered lots of unwind time followed by not even attempting sleeptime until 10pm works for him. I get judged by everyone about the whole routine......

why send him to his room so early thats mean........ he needs the unwind time and so do I.

You shouldnt let him watch tv before bed thats terrible sleep hygiene........ we used to have a no screen time after 6pm rule and were up until the early hours and he wpuld wake at 5!

10pm is way to late for a 6yr old...... i used to spend hours trying to get him to sleep now i turn out the light sit with him and hes asleep within 5mins.

Ive learnt to just ignore the judgy people

Mine goes to bed around 7:30 then has stories or some quiet time so usually asleep around 8:30. Up around 7 most days. He wakes up naturally rather than when my alarm goes usually.

I know a few families whose 5year olds go do we n later though. Think it depends on your and your child's routines. Do you think he needs more sleep and is struggling? If not, then don't worry.

Children are different, there's no chance though either of mine would have agreed to go to bed at 6.30. That's barely dinner time for us.
If he's fine during the day and gets up happily when he needs to get up then I don't see a problem. If you had to drag him out of bed half asleep every morning then that would be a different matter.

Currently my eldest just turned five and in reception at school and is absolutely knackered all the time so bedtime after a bath and a few stories is usually around 18:00. She will wake up at around 07:00 most mornings, but there is an element of noise at that point as my two year old tends to wake up around seven as well so sometimes he disturbs her when she might sleep a little longer.
