I have a fussy eater ds15 and he can't seem to come up with meals for his weekend camping expedition. Won't eat anything with a wet sauce ie; chilli, spaghetti Bol etc. Will eat plain pasta, bread (not brioche), tinned sardines at a push. He'll be bringing weetabix and fruit for breakfast but stuck for lunches. Will need non perishable foods.

He's always hungry even after huge meals at home. Any ideas please?

Come to think of it, DC's DoE groups were mostly fueled by sugar. Protein didn't really feature. Somehow they succeeded.

My DS will eat virtually anything but on his trip he ate super noodles for most meals. You can make them with a little less water to make them less saucy.

Hi there,

I'm a fussy eater and go camping/hiking...
for night 1 I take frozen (cooked) chicken -usually roast dinner leftovers- that defrost during the day in my bag. Fry that to reheat and have with some rice. Tilda packet rice cooks in about 5 minutes on a camp stove 👍

Night 2 onwards I take a dehydrated meal from expedition foods - I tend to go for a curry, but my kids assure me others are good too. They are super lightweight and cost about £6 each.

For lunches I tend to have 2 wraps with marmite in.

Lots of chocolate! Good luck Smile

This is really good!

Have you checked the DofE recommended meals? Look here: www.dofe.org/shopping/expedition-kit/expedition-food/

There are some non-saucy options. While it is preferred that they do some cooking themselves with pasta, sauces etc, boil in the bag or dehydrated meals are perfectly acceptable as long as they are a substantial meal and are hot.

Thanks all, ds survived. Was very glad of the sardines which were shared out amongst the group - tins are small and light. Other successes were pasta, pesto in a carton, bagels and cous cous. Graze protein bars and Bellevita biscuits also a hit.
One of the boys had dehydrated meals and these didn't work well for some reason (reconstitution issues).
