Positive stories of relationships that started in your 40s and older

Just want a bit of hope really. I'm mid 40s, just split up with DP. Not ready for a new relationship yet but like the idea that there may be someone on the horizon. The idea of staying in by myself every night with no one to talk to makes me feel horribly lonely.

I'm not one for nights out any more. I don't think I could cope with online dating (tried it years ago and it was full of weirdness).

If you, or anyone you know, has started a good relationship at age 40 or above, please let me know (including how you met) Smile.

I go the gym every night but they are all younger than me. I met the love of my life but long story it isn’t to be.So anything else feels like it’s only going to be second best 😢

Met my now partner when I was 44 after leaving my ex who cheated for years.

Never been happier. We’re getting married in the new year and I have a loyal and kind partner after living with an eejit for far too long! Wish I’d met them sooner to be honest.

We met online. I wasn’t looking for a serious relationship - just wanted to get back out there and be confident meeting new people. Fell in love quite quickly and never looked back ❤️

I divorced 5 years ago at 44, met my now dp at 2 years later, been together 3 years. Don't live together but have a very happy relationship that works for us and are in love. He's the complete opposite of my ex and pretty perfect. Although I will also say I was not looking for anybody to be with and was set on being happily single, and still believe if he hadn't come along I would be happy on my own too.

Twenty years ago in my late forties, I’d recently moved house and busy with life as a divorced, working mum.
Turns out that my neighbour had seen me, but had been a bit shy of saying “hi”…
Upshot is that he squashed his shyness, and heaven be praised, we are together, still very much in love, and he’s restored my faith in love, respect and all the aspects of a beautiful relationship, that I’d been previously told was me being a wishful thinker.
I wasn’t actively looking, but I found what I’d been told was improbable.
Like the pop song says 🎼 love isn’t always on time🎼
Wishing you love and light

I met my dp on POF at the age of 44. I’d only tried online dating because a friend/neighbour persuaded me into it. We’d (me, now exh, and the kids) only moved to the area from overseas the year before, and the only people I knew were mums from the school gates. She thought it’d be a confidence boost for me to get out and about for coffee and cake with new people.

My now dp was the third date I went on, and honestly he is the love of my life! He’d been separated from his now exw for about 18 months, and neither of us expected to meet someone else. Our relationship is really strong, I think because we’re both really clear about what we will and won’t tolerate, strong boundaries, and having both been in bad relationships. We live together with our children (my two who we have 80% of the time, and his two who we have 50% of the time), and although money is a bit tight at the moment (him paying back debts accrued in his marriage, me because I’d given up my well paying career to move overseas to further my exh’s career, meaning I’m now back at the bottom), the future looks rosy 🥰

My dad was in his 50's when he met his third wife she was in her 40's. He's the happiest I have ever seen him and she is so much more right for him than anyone in his previous relationships. They even went on to have two twin girls!

It was third time lucky for my dad and it took him 50 years to find her!

Tempnamelady · 10/11/2021 15:28

@Hawtain86 that’s lovely ! You can keep the twins though Grin . Otherwise we live in hope. Smile
