BA infant seats (not cots) on long haul

Has anyone had any experience of these. Babies will be 14 months when traveling so too big for the travel costs they provide (we’ve booked the seats next to the spaces where they go).
BA site suggests the cots are replaced with a travel chair. I can find some old pictures on Google but no real life experiences!

Anyone ever came across them? How were they from a practical POV?

I think they have a max 9kg weight limit

Twilightstarbright · 17/10/2021 07:05

This was in 2018 but it looked like a bouncy chair that didn’t bounce!

We flew recently when Ds was 16 months, I’m not sure he would have tolerated them much. He sat on my lap on way out and in middle spare seat on way back. Slept laying across the seat (we had three in row and he could fit between dh and I laying down)

My DGS had one of the seats on a cross Atlantic flight when he was just 12 months, but a big baby. It was great. He could sit up and see all around. And recline more to sleep. Works well.

That’s what I’m seeing pics of @Twilightstarbright.

But worrying about the weight limit. It’s 27.5lb and one baby is only 7lb off that.

It’s like a baby bouncer chair but pretty sure at 14 months, yours will be far too big for it?
DS was 6(?) months when we used it
It wasn’t particularly comfy or useful and I’m pretty sure he had to be taken out of it every time the seatbelt sign went on, so it’s much easier just to have them on your lap

With any lucky, it won’t be a full flight and you’ll have a spare seat to use as well

glasshalfsomething · 17/10/2021 07:08

We’re on night flights so hoping they’ll both use to sleep

DS was probably over the limit and we tried it out but he wasn’t very happy in it.

Caspianberg · 17/10/2021 12:25

I would just get them then and hope they sleep a bit on them.
Ds is 18 months and he still sits in the babybjorn bouncer at home to have milk and I think they are similar size. If he fell asleep in arms I could probably put him in it and he would be comfy enough to snooze.
Worse case you just don’t use them

My worst case is they end up asleep on us; which means no sleep for us (twins, so no rest for either parent). Really hoping a bottle and the white noise is enough to soothe them over!

We just travelled BA a few months ago, and my LO was 13 months, and she fit just fine. It was a bouncer seat, I'd say a pretty large size, and they will only allow the baby into it for when the seat belt sign is off. She did eventually go to sleep in it, but couldn't flip over or move around (there is a belt on it) and she'd wake up and cry, and was miserable. We asked if we could lay her down on a blanket at our feet and that was very quickly shut down. So eventually, she slept on me, which was pretty awful. We flew long haul for ten hours, and at least I think she got about 4 hours of sleep all night in the bouncer. The way there was daytime and she didn't sleep at all (ugh!).

LakeShoreD · 17/10/2021 20:09

It’s a crappy bouncer seat. I always booked like a seat at that age, appreciate that’s expensive with twins though!

Caspianberg · 17/10/2021 20:14

@glasshalfsomething - if it’s any help, my Ds is a disaster napping/ sleeeping. But flights, travelling to airport and missing naps etc meant he actually slept almost the whole way back which was a small miracle.

Entertainment wise, I packed toys as he won’t watch iPad yet. He was entertained on flight out with the paper sick bags… also snacks. Lots of snacks.

Thanks everyone. The seats are already reserved but good to hear the reviews! Snacks and new toys aplenty. Just hoping they sleep a decent chunk; last thing I want is distress and then the stress of upsetting other passengers
