My DC just had results back that he won't be going to grammar school. Generally my view is that that's fine, I'm not a big fan of grammar school, but we're in a big GS area, so wanted to give him the opportunity. We arranged some tutoring for him but really tried to keep it low pressure.
A lot of his friends have passed, but he keeps telling us that he's not bothered.
Now on one hand, I'm really pleased if he's not, it's not the be-all, end-all. But on the other, we know he's bright (high achieving in many areas - more than his friends from what we understand) & I'm now worrying that we've done him a disservice by down-playing it. Perhaps we should have made him do 10 minute tests before breakfast everyday like some of his peers??
Have we created a child who is so laid back about tests that he won't see the need to put in the effort in school? Or will secondary school help persuade him?
My other concern is that when we visited some of the non-grammar schools they were describing what they study/read in year 7 and he's already covered/read all of these. Is he going to get bored/lazy from the outset?
I really I sound like a neurotic parent, I'm just trying to get the right balance for him & am worried I've got it all wrong!
