Who here has a cleaner but not a huge house?

We don't have a huge house or a huge income but I just bloody hate cleaning. I'm very tidy and organised but I've never been one to dust the skirting boards and whatnot. Husband and I both work fulltime and we have 2 kids so it's fairly low down on our list of priorities. Is it normal for people who don't have huge houses to hire a regular cleaner? I want one!

Two bed semi here. DP pays for a cleaner as we both work full time but he works irregular hours and likes to spend his time off sleeping not cleaning. We share the day to day stuff like washing, cooking and food washing up.

If you can afford it and it improves your life go for it!

@Necktie

Get a cleaner ! Life is too short to hoover.

Then you can do the ‘extra’ cleaning to make sure what your house is lovely all the time.

And do Marie Kondo = happiness

I had a cleaner when I had a two bedroom flat and lived alone!

I absolutely hate cleaning, and having a cleaner every other week meant I just had to keep on top of it.

I've had a cleaner ever since. 😁

@MintyGreenDream

For those who have cleaners do they have a key right from the start?
Yes. It would've been a hassle for them to keep breaking in through the living room window.

We only have a 1 bedroom flat but I’m considering it for the really deep cleaning jobs. Our flat is extremely tidy and looks immaculate on the surface but there’s so many tedious jobs I cba with doing that I’d like to hire a cleaner for.

BrainPotter · 16/10/2021 11:25

Yep we have a cleaner, 2 hours per fortnight to do a thorough clean and I just maintain the kitchen and vacuuming in between.
Go for it, it’s well worth it in my opinion!!

Clandestin · 16/10/2021 12:00

We had a cleaner when we lived in a one-bedroom central London flat. There’s no square footage requirement!

MissAmbrosia · 16/10/2021 12:01

Definitely! Mine is brilliant and I don't know how we managed before.

Ostryga · 16/10/2021 12:01

I’ve got a 2 bed 2 bath terrace and I would give up all my luxuries to keep my cleaner. It makes life so easy. And she changes the bedding and sticks a load of laundry on! I have asked her to move in but she’s not keen Grin

Minesril · 16/10/2021 12:08

Yes, 3 bed end terrace. She doesn't dust the skirting boards though...

Pucarbuile · 16/10/2021 12:11

3 bed semi and a cleaner twice a week. Cheaper than a divorce 🤷‍♀️

Recycledblonde · 16/10/2021 12:13

I have a 3 bedroomed house, a cleaner and an ironing lady and I bloody love them both. Ironing lady has been with us 10 years and cleaner six years, I’d probably rather get rid of DH than them.😆

Seahawk80 · 16/10/2021 12:15

We have a 2 bed flat and a cleaner every 2 weeks. We both work FT and it's invaluable. We want to spend weekends together as a family not doing chores. I would have every week if we had more money!

mobear · 16/10/2021 12:16

Before DP and DC, I had a weekly cleaner in a 1-bed flat (we still do, but now have a 4-bed house). I worked hard during the week and it felt like a small price to pay to reclaim my weekend.

ISpyCobraKai · 16/10/2021 12:17

I have a three bed flat, am on benefits and have a cleaner.
I have disabilities and can't manage myself

2 bed cottage here, my cleaner does 3 hours every fortnight. I work really hard and want to enjoy my time off - there's enough to do around the house without keeping on top of the cleaning too!

Strangevipers · 16/10/2021 12:25

My husband asked when we got married if he can have sky sports I agreed and asked to have a cleaner and naturally we agreed . Neither of argue over watching the football or a messy house so I think it's stopped many an arguments over the years

LadyCatStark · 16/10/2021 12:54

We had a 3 bedroom semi and had a cleaner. Now we have a 5 bedroom detached house and can’t afford a cleaner 🙈. Personally I preferred the smaller house and cleaner or I’d prefer to get rid of Sky or something as pay a cleaner instead but DH would never go for that. Not that he does anything to help with the cleaning so I suppose it doesn’t affect him! Next door have a cleaner twice a week and she even pegs their washing out. Our other neighbour and I are so jealous!

Pucarbuile · 16/10/2021 13:37

Sounds like my amazing cleaner. She puts out washing, will fill/empty the dishwasher, even finishes the washing up if dh "forgets" bits, leaves the kids teddies in funny little scenes on their beds. She's a proper Jilly Cooper style treasure (which I tell her often and pay her accordingly).

tinselvestsparklepants · 16/10/2021 14:04

Once a fortnight here. 3 bed house, 2 ft working adults, 1 dog. Means we do a light clean every other week. Means We actually get a few hours to do things other than dog walking and chores at the weekend. Totally worth it but I do feel guilty. Need to change my attitude!
