Morning all. How long is it to walk ...around 10 mins?
Also Im guessing there will be tourist sign posts on how to walk there?

Google maps says it is a 6 minute walk.

Iwouldlikesomecake · 16/10/2021 08:03

Not even 10 mins. Come out of Leicester Square tube and head down Charing Cross road towards Trafalgar Square and the gallery is on the right. Can’t remember if it’s signposted but there’s lots of the little maps on plinths on the street if you’re not sure.

Phyllis321 · 16/10/2021 08:03

It’s very close and very easy. Virtually round the corner. Just get on Charing Cross Road and walk down to Trafalgar Square.

TimeFlying · 16/10/2021 08:04

Five mins. You can almost see it from the exit of the tube. Have fun.

stilldumdedumming · 16/10/2021 08:04

Central London has large easy to follow maps at almost every corner so you can check where you're going. You'll be fine.

Fab not too long a walk then.
Charring Cross Road...is that right or left out of tube or straight across the road

Less than 10 mins! More like 2. I'm not up to date with signage but it really is just down one short road ( St Martin's Lane.)

SW1amp · 16/10/2021 08:07

A few mins
You’ll spend more time waiting to cross the roads than walking! It’s really close

Neonplant · 16/10/2021 08:07

Well I'd allow 10 to get through all the tourists. But yeah super close. Even better if you can make sure you come out of the right exit on the tube so less road crossing etc.

Dumbledoresgirl · 16/10/2021 08:08

Sorry, I meant Charing Cross Road. Blush

gogohm · 16/10/2021 08:14

It's five mins, due south, not sure there's a sign though.

MimosaFields · 16/10/2021 08:14

We can't tell you left or right because we don't know what exit you'll come out of in Leicester Square, but it's just a few minutes away. Once you are at Street level, switch on Google maps or ask anyone passing by. You really can't miss it

KittenKong · 16/10/2021 08:16

Take a brolly - it’s looking pretty grey today.

Chicchicchicchiclana · 16/10/2021 08:21

Charing Cross Road is the big main road with all the book shops on it. There will be brown tourist signs saying Trafalgar Square, National Gallery etc. Plus you could always use a map on your smart phone.

KittenKong · 16/10/2021 08:35

Not many bookshops these days sadly!

This (though I think one exit is actually marked ‘National Gallery’ as you head up from the ticket hall, isn’t it?) — but all exits are at the same crossroads, anyway. You’re heading due south along Charing Cross Rd, slightly downhill. Depending on which side of the street you’re on, you’ll pass Cecil Court and the Garrick theatre, or Irving St, Orange St and the National Portrait Gallery.
PeppermintMocha · 16/10/2021 08:36

If you come out the main exit of Leicester Square which is the most likely (or was, could be different with one-way systems now I guess), you will be facing towards Leicester square and Charing Cross road is the one running left to right in front of you. If that is where you come out, then turn left to go towards Trafalgar Square. You could cross the road and walk on the far side if you want, as it's on that side, or you can cross when you are closer, it won't matter.

When you are in the Tube station, there are signs that tell you which exit to leave by depending on where you want to go, so just look for the ones that say Trafalgar Square, or National Gallery. Exit 1 is the best one for you but if you come out Exit 2 that is also easy. If you come out 3 or 4, then you have to go down a road a bit to get to charing cross road.

Sometimes I just find it easier to get outside from a tube station and then work out where I am, but if you follow the exit number signs, it's fine.

whyarentiskinnyet · 16/10/2021 08:48

Check exit signs in the station, it will be signposted.

PeterPomegranate · 16/10/2021 08:52

If you look you will find local maps on the wall in the station with exits numbered. Or ask the LU staff at the barrier and they’ll tell you the best exit.

PeppermintMocha · 16/10/2021 08:53

You can also look at the maps online. Exit 1 is what you want to aim for.

PeppermintMocha · 16/10/2021 08:54

And then come out of Exit 1, turn left and walk towards the gallery as described above (cross the road at some point).

Medievalist · 16/10/2021 09:00

There are street maps everywhere in central London.
