Can anyone help me with the initial healthcare costs of a kitten?

So injections, microchips, neutering, worming and de-fleeing?

Do vets vary widely? I looked at 4 this morning and none of them have prices on their website.

Before anyone asks why I didn't get a rescue cat - I tried! And tried and tried.

Apparently they have more people waiting for rescue cats than they do actual cats! Which is great.
DH thinks it's because more people are working from home.

"Yes. I'm not too broke to afford it. I started this thread to consider the best way of going about it.
I'm not living on bread and water. It's just been a couple of decades since I owned a cat and want to do it the best way possible".

Ok, you just seemed very surprised in yr initial post that insurers will only cover the first £2500. Glad you have this and yr cat well financed/covered!

Yes that's the limit I can find.

I'm after better cover, I want to pay for that.

Weirdly enough it's now leapt the other way.

I just tried petplan as suggested on here and it does indeed cover much more which is great!
Expect during the filling out of info, it gets to a point where you have to click "my pet has an ongoing health issue" OR "my pet has a short term health issue" neither of which he has.
And the cover was for £25 a month which I feel would be less if I had a different option. Confused

Then I found another one which was £35 a month.

It seems as though it's two extremes. £3.55 a month or £35 a month!

I'll keep searching.

The cats that were up for adoption in our local rescue centre were all unsuitable for homes with children under 8 so that was problematic. My neighbour's cats are rescue cats and are amazing cats, we love them. The kitten was originally destined for another home but the child turned out to be allergic to it so we took it.

Sorry I should have said that the ones that were suitable for younger families were rehomed/reserved really quickly. It wasn't that none came up but we were slow.

Keep searching OP and find the cover right for you. I personally do not think you will find anything comprehensive enough for under £20-25 pm
at kittens age. That is a kind of belts and braces policy at least, even with you paying our first and claiming back. Do you have kittens lineage? That can also help.

Your cat is lovely and you are clearly trying to secure them with the appropriate level of insurance. I hope you find the right cover for you and your new family addition! I wish you well Op. X
