DS bought trainers - fake & can't get a refund

My DS purchased and paid for a pair of trainers in good faith ie thinking they were genuine. We've got them and they're not genuine (not obvious but definitely fake) & to make matters worse they are too small so he can't even wear them!!

We've tried emailing the company multiple times but not heard back - is there any recourse? Poor boy paid £130 of his hard earned PT job wages and now can't even wear them. I can't find any telephone numbers or address an address. Does he have to kiss goodbye to the money?Sad

Where did he buy them from?

Where did he buy them from? If a shop is selling fakes then go to trading standards.

If a bloke in a pub, or someone on Facebook sold them, then I wouldn't expect any different.

Probably yes. A hard learned lesson. How does it go...if it seems too good to be true it's most likely not.

chipsandpeas · 14/10/2021 17:26

how did he pay?

TheWoleb · 14/10/2021 17:30

Even reading their returns policy, they're not following the law. It's a bullshit site.

They do say they will take 5 days to response so maybe you'll still get a reply, but it looks like a bullshit site.

Tell him to contact his bank for a chargeback.

BlueBloodedBlue · 14/10/2021 17:31

If he paid by credit card, please check with the issuer that other payments aren't being taken. It's likely he will have put all his details in so if they are dodgy, they could be buying all sorts or selling his details on.

It's rubbish isn't it? DS was scammed a couple of years ago but luckily he'd paid by PayPal so got his money back.

The website says to return to this address for a refund or replacement Please return the item to our address: Flyretro.co.uk-Address:92 Ash Lane,YNYS ,LL47 3SH,GB

Bank debit card

MatildaIThink · 14/10/2021 17:33

The website references a fake Ltd company "Flyretro.co.uk Ltd", there are warning flags all over the place and a quick Google shows it appears to be a scam as does the supposed parent company with no legal presence in the UK.

If he paid by debit or credit card then he can contact his bank to initiate a charge back, if it was via a credit card then he will also have Section 75 protection as the goods were over £100. If PayPal then he needs to go via their complaints system.

uk.trustpilot.com/review/flyretro.co.uk

Yeah, it's a bullshit site. Did he not check trustpilot first?
My kid is 10, and got a gohenry card. We discussed shopping online safety and I told him that the first thing to do is check trustpilot. How old is your kid?

That address does not exist.

My son bought a Stone Island jumper for £50 turned out to be a fake (no shit Sherlock) he couldn't get the money back, he has learned his lesson.

Jjjayfee · 14/10/2021 17:37

Your bank or his should do a chargeback. Contact them asap. I once was refused by bank for chargeback when I phoned so had to press for action but got my five hundred pounds back.

Idontlike · 14/10/2021 17:39

He should contact his bank to request charge back.

I live in fear of gullible DS doing this, he’s already asked me to order him something off a couple of sites and I’ve had to tell him they’re fake, if he’d had the money in his account he’d have lost it.

Glitterybug · 14/10/2021 18:44

Should have been a great big red flag that everything on that site is about 2/3 cheaper than a genuine site. You need to have a chat with him about shopping safely on the internet. There's plenty of resources out there.

Runforthehillocks · 14/10/2021 19:03

All those saying didn't he check Trustpilot first - have to say I hadn't heard of that, do he's not 'been silly',or 'made a mistake' or 'not been careful'. This is the scammer's fault and I'm sorry it's happened. Hope he can get his money back via the bank.

Glitterybug · 14/10/2021 19:36

Well yes it's the scammers fault but you wouldn't buy a pair of Nike airs off a market stall at a third of the rrp and not question whether they were real. Op and her son need to educate themselves and be more careful in the future that's all.

lechatnoir · 14/10/2021 22:14

Thanks all and absolutely my fault for assuming he was more savvy than he actually is and not checking especially as it was a fairly large sum - he was so insistent he'd checked and they were genuine but he clearly hadn't or didn't know what he was looking for and it was becoming yet another argument I didn't want (I think £130 on a pair of shoes that won't fit him in 6 months is ridiculous but it's his money so trying not to comment). I hadn't realised £130 wasn't the full price otherwise absolutely agree 2/3 less would have been a massive red flag - again, a lesson for DC too.

I've escalated with my bank and need to send in our evidence within 14 days so fingers crossed otherwise it's a very harsh and expensive lesson.

Your bank will come good, so don't worry. They're normally very good

But for future reference, do ask him to run purchases that he's not totally sure about past your first! Always but from trusted websites etc
