Does anyone wear dentures? How do they feel?

A few years ago I had to have a lower molar and the canine tooth next to it removed, leaving quite a gap.
I have been putting off getting a double tooth denture mainly due to the cost (the lowest price quoted is £400 through to implants at £2000 per tooth!!!) but also because at 48 the thought of dentures make me feel ancient!
However, I can no longer put it off as I have TMJ disorder and eating only on one side is causing me issues.
Unfortunately I will have to opt for the lower end of the prices quoted but am apprehensive, wondering just how comfortable they will be.
How do they feel, is it easy chewing on dentures etc? Do they take a long time to get used to?

I have 4 dentures on a top plate - originally I had a nhs plate which was not very nice and felt uncomfortable. I now have private dentures on a metal frame type structure which are really comfortable. Sometimes I forget to take them out at night because they are so comfortable.

Casamilano thank you, were they very expensive purchased privately?

I’ve a partial upper plate. It’s the most uncomfortable thing in the world and I’ve developed a severe aversion to food because of it. But it’s an NHS one and badly made at that. There isn’t anywhere local to me that do metal ones at an affordable price to me so I’ve just to suck it up!

I have a tiny little denture which replaces a lower molar and pre-molar. It’s not on a plate, and clips on to the neighbouring teeth - it’s made of plastic-y stuff. (If you Google “flexible partial denture” you will see what I mean - I am not explaining it very well!) I paid about £400 privately although I could have had an NHS option much cheaper. I had the gap prior to this but it was only visible if I opened my mouth like the wolf in Red Riding Hood - I just happened to see a poster for these dentures when I was waiting for a checkup and asked my dentist if I could see samples. (I am also in my 40s and it did feel like an older person’s thing!)

I had to go back a couple of times because it was fractionally too long at the gum side and gave me ulcers, but once it was adjusted it’s been absolutely fine. I take it out at night and store it in a little pot from Boots that’s supposed to be for decanting eg moisturiser into for holidays.

@Thedishwasherstacker I paid £3,500 for all my treatment which included my denture. Think the denture bit was about £900. This was over 10 years ago though (denture has lasted well). I got interest free loan from the dental practice to,pay for it.
