Police Scotland Don't be that guy Campaign

I haven't seen any threads on this. Read about this on a local news site this morning. First thoughts are finally, something aimed at men!

I've read about apps for women if they feel in danger, telephone lines for someone to chat to when walking home, flagging down buses, changing of routes, the usual what we should wear, not wear etc. All of which I think is of little help if some entitled male psycho is determined to murder you and again, onus always seems to be on women to keep themselves safe. And also missing the point that Sarah Everard probably initially didn't feel in danger as he was a serving officer.

More needs to be done but at least it's something? Sorry I don't know how to link but will come up with a Google search.

Saw it on Twitter and really hoping it hits home. It’s a great start!

talkalarm · 14/10/2021 11:38

Bumping this as it sounds great

Woeismethischristmas · 14/10/2021 11:42

I watched it is good.

Blueberryflavour · 14/10/2021 11:43

Bumping.

RedCarsGoFaster · 14/10/2021 11:59

Brilliantly done. Also made me tear up as the recipient of a LOT of the actions described - not the cat calling etc, but the alcohol, bundled home in a taxi etc. Seemed so normal 20yrs ago.

FredWinnie · 14/10/2021 12:19

It's a start
Thank you OP

ButYouGottaHaveASkillJeff · 14/10/2021 13:11

Another little bump. Probably should've come up with a punchier thread name!

It's a start. Thanks for the link Op

MichelleScarn · 14/10/2021 13:27

It's great! Very straightforward as to what it actually is like

Watermelonsugarhi · 14/10/2021 13:35

Bumping this as i think its great.

Only question is, why is it launched in Scotland and not the whole of the UK!?

FeatheredHope · 14/10/2021 13:41

This is superb. And about bloody time too.

RubyFowler · 14/10/2021 13:45

Wow! Quite powerful.

EwwSprouts · 14/10/2021 14:37

It's only in Scotland as it's a Police Scotland campaign.

I've shared it with teen DS as just wanted to give him food for thought over and above me sharing my feminism.

TheHuntingoftheSnark · 14/10/2021 14:43

Do they still call girls lassie?!

Enterifyoudare · 14/10/2021 14:45

@TheHuntingoftheSnark

Do they still call girls lassie?!
I am in my 40s and my mum is in her 70s. She still refers to us as lassies.
0blio · 14/10/2021 14:48

@TheHuntingoftheSnark

Do they still call girls lassie?!
Yes they do.

Thanks for starting this thread OP, the campaign is very good and long overdue. Let's hope the rest of the UK run it or a similar one too.

picklemewalnuts · 14/10/2021 14:50

It's good, but I felt 'guilt tripped', 'pressured her' 'pushed her into it' are phrases used by the victim of the behaviour not the abuser. Men won't see their behaviour that way.

I think 'persuaded her to give in', or 'got her to give in', 'made her give me a quickie', 'got her to...' etc would be more likely their perspective.

Ulrichamelo · 14/10/2021 14:55

Effective .I’d like to see a similar campaign for domestic violence. Outlining the small ways in which it begins, long before it escalates to physical abuse.
So breaking things, throwing things, insults and name calling etc etc etc.

PeterPomegranate · 14/10/2021 14:58

Looks like a good campaign. Also wish there was something across the U.K.

Liked the former police officer speaking about male entitlement and violence and making the link with violent porn.

It’s not always women who are the victims in fact it’s mostly men who are victims of violent crime (not including sexual violence) but it’s nearly always men who commit the crime.

Bump

overthethamesfromyou · 14/10/2021 21:27

It's a great campaign and I would urge everyone to share it as much as possible.
