CCTV in the living room

Is it usual to have CCTV in the living room and then also to have it recording all the time even when you're in the house? I've been following a trial where a lot the evidence has come from footage the defendants recorded themselves on an internal CCTV camera. The camera seems to be on constantly day and night even when people are in the house. I understand people might have a security camera for when their out or to monitor pets but just to have running all the time especially when you're committing crimes Infront of it. Also I don't understand why they didn't just destroy the camera and footage.

If they're not password protected they can end up being livestreamed on the net as well 😱

PeoplePleaserBe · 14/10/2021 22:26

Are you doing Jury Service?

KitchenKrisis · 14/10/2021 22:51

Op it seems something oddly to do with protection and evidence.
The hair dressers also had it to try and show something to do with a similar situation. It's probably why the abuse happens in the hall way.
It's all utterly bizzare and how thick to think people wouldn't work out from the footage what she's done.

No I'm not on the jury. I'm following the trial though an online newspaper.

I'm following the trial too and have been wondering this. Why did they have it? Seems odd.

HollowTalk · 14/10/2021 22:59

Which trial is it?

FizzyPink · 14/10/2021 23:01

On our local Facebook group someone posted a video of a burglar in their house from CCTV cameras they had hidden under desks and tables. I did think it a bit strange and what are the chances of a burglar choosing the house with that level of security

Mymapuddlington · 14/10/2021 23:02

My friend has cctv all over the house constantly on, she often watches it when she’s out but her partner and kids are at home. She can see and hear everything, I think it’s super creepy personally.

Yes i think you're right. She thought it would prove her "innocence".

Its the Arthur Labinjo-Hughes trial. Heartbreaking.

On Twitter today someone posted a photo of a fox under their bed. 😱😱😱

It is creepy! I viewed house a few years back that had CCTV in every room. I saw the PC with it all on.. they must had had about 18 cameras there. I did read a post on MN from someone who has CCTV in their house, so they can catch out amongst their kids who is lying about taking stuff from the fridge etc.

I don't think they thought he'd die. If you're starving a child and salt poisoning them not sure what else they thought would happen. Neither of them seems capable of rational thought. She seems like the worst person in the world to be near children, malicious and manipulative. I read elsewhere the dad had been normal at one point. The witness testimonies suggest otherwise.
I personally don't have CCTV in my home, I like the fact my children have freedom to raid the sweet cupboard and get up to some mischief when I'm out of the room. To me, cameras in the house are a control thing, people don't like losing it.

TamedChill · 15/10/2021 02:01

And the reason they didn't get rid of the evidence was because they were too concerned with covering their arses. The description of her carrying and positioning Arthur after she'd knocked him unconscious - it's awful.

Dbank · 15/10/2021 08:28

I can't see the need for internal domestic CCTV, unless you are at risk of attack / home invasions etc.

However, it's very useful for gathering evidence if you're burgled. So a good compromise is to only record internal cameras when the alarm is set.

KitchenKrisis · 15/10/2021 20:26

The mind boggles.

Didn't they themselves watch the footage??
I'm getting the impression the world they move in is so incredibly violent, with no morals at all that they couldn't see the wood for the trees, although they knew what they were doing was utterly wrong and hid it from a some people from others they felt fine to be open about it.

I remember a an old school friend saying her ex got her dd and shook her by the shoulders to "discipline" her.

icedcoffees · 15/10/2021 20:28

Lots of people have CCTV/cameras to supervise their dogs while they're out. I'm a dog walker and quite a few of my clients have cameras to keep an eye on their puppies.

Yes, good point
FellInLoveWithABanana · 16/10/2021 22:39

We have one in our living room and our home security package includes 30 days of recordings kept.

I unplug it when friends are over, or the cleaner is in. It is used for home security and watching our pets.

NotanotherboxofFrogs · 16/10/2021 22:58

I live alone. I have cameras in my living room and best and more in the hallway and outside.

Trigger warning

I didn't have them early last year when my neighbour called one evening and proceeded to assault me on my sofa. It's like fort knox now.

My partner knows they are there, no one else does. It feeds to my phone and keeps up to 30 days at a time. It's my protection. Moving is not an option.

They are locked down tightly and backed up on my laptop. Neighbour denied it but the evidence showed otherwise as there was no other way for the scratches, the body fluids, the ripped clothes. The forensic evidence was sound.

NotanotherboxofFrogs · 16/10/2021 22:58

Bedroom not best.

Another dog walker here. I also do cat visits too while people are on holiday. Loads of my customers have cameras in their homes.

I have absolutely no problem with it.

skybluee · 17/10/2021 00:16

Is it a HMO or supported accom? A lot of those have a camera in the lounge (although often they get disabled).
