Fair access panel tomorrow for dd - im having a huge wobble

My dd has been home ed for 5 years. She is now in year 7 and the paediatrician has been pushing us to put her back in school so that she can have more assessments etc.

She currently has “working diagnosis of asd and adhd. We agreed and applied for a school place in July.

All the schools local to us have refused to take her despite some having places. One called us to tell us they wouldnt be able to look after her. She doesn’t have serious enough needs for a special needs school apparently and yet mainstream schools dont want her.

She doesnt have an echp when she was at school she had a iep but obviously that was 5 years ago.

So tomorrow apparently its going to a fair access panel and they will assign her a place at a school.

I am so tearful tonight - please if anyone has been through this reassure me - this will be ok?

I'm sorry I don't have any experience or advice but just here to offer a hand hold and some Brew

I have vague experience of this in applying for a place at a school that had a vacancy and didn't want my daughter (because she had school anxiety and a lot of absence). She was being treated by CAMHS. The panel allowed them to refuse her. Meanwhile i absolutely messaged all parties rejecting her about Equalities Act and miraculously the school I had applied for, called us in and gave her a place. If there is any school that has a vacancy, they should not be using this protocol

The fair access panel was over a week ago but they don't yet know? Hmm

At this point I think I'd be writing to my MP. I'd make it clear that I, as the parent of the child in question, was following medical advice and that the local authority appeared to be failing in its duty of care to her as a vulnerable child (given her working diagnoses) to provide her with an education (or whatever phrasing is appropriate, not my area of expertise).

I'm sorry also that your thread hasn't gained much traction on here. Sometimes things seem to fall through the cracks for no reason. I'd maybe post again on AIBU: "AIBU to consider writing to my MP regarding this?" or similar. I'd summarise the situation so far and ask if anyone can point you in the direction of any useful organisations, charities, Facebook groups, guidelines etc. Unfortunately parents of children with additional needs often have to fight very hard simply to access the support to which their child is entitled. Sadly sometimes a push is needed to get what should be given freely (I remember once having a problem with a broadband company which went on for weeks - at the point they threatened bailiffs (for the money we did not owe them) I rang the ombudsman and magically it was resolved three days later Angry). Good luck!

Jeez what a rollercoaster.
I don't have any knowledge about this kind of thing but just wanted to wish you well. I hope you get an answer soon.
