Dehumidifier or humidifier

Lcw29 · 13/10/2021 20:47

My sons are constantly ill ever since nursery started. They have a cough that I've been told by the doctor will probably take awhile to go.

Would a humidifier at night help? Or do I need a dehumidifier? Not sure what the difference is to be honest .

Thanks

Humidifier puts moisture into the air. Dehumidifier removes moisture

Humidifiers are often recommended for babies, you can get vapour oil refill ones at the chemist too. The increased humidity is meant to help with congestion. I've tried all sorts with ds as a baby, couldn't say whether they worked or not!

Dehumidifiers are good for drying washing and if you have damp/condensation problems Grin

Get a thermometer with a built in humitiy measure, you can pick one up on amazon for a couple of quid.

Both too much and too little humidity can cause breathing irritation, you need to asses the situation in your home. You want it between 40%-60% approx.

We have the earlier version of this one. I find it works really well and put it on overnight whenever DS is chesty or snotty.

Thanks everyone. I have ordered something to measure the humidity in their room and will go from there. Managed to give my oldest an extra pillow to raise him a bit. Seems to have helped him settle for now
