Getting hair dye off skin v quickly!

I posted in 30 days only but we’re on a time crunch here!

Slapped a box dye on my hair last night.

Now aside from looking like Morticia Adams (because “oh they don’t have my colour, well how much darker can one shade be” is a daft thought!)
I clearly missed a spot when washing it out because not only has my beautiful white pillowcase has met a walnut brown demise but my forehead is VERY stained. I’ve tried exfoliating and hand sanitizer (I read rubbing alcohol works…) but it’s barely made a dent.

I don’t wear make up so don’t have any to hand and I have to go and have work photos taken in an hour.

What can I do!

Maybe try lemon juice?!

For the hair, if you want to go lighter more quickly then use head and shoulders or another clarifying shampoo.

Good luck!

Some hair dyes are worse at staining skin than others. Which did you use? It was baby wipes I always used to wipe skin.

Just wash your hair and rub the shampoo around the hair line where the colour is. I do this the morning after a box dye and it works every time.

Isabellabasil · 13/10/2021 08:45

I actually don't think it is that noticeable. However you can explain to the photographer and have it photpshopped out.

dementedpixie · 13/10/2021 08:46

Washing up liquid, Soap, vaseline, baby lotion - try them all

Gavinandstacey32 · 13/10/2021 08:46

Hairdresser here… MILK! Dip some cotton wool in some milk and then wipe the stained area. Saved me many of times!

IHopeYouStepOnALegoPiece · 13/10/2021 08:50

Thank you!

I’ve tried the shampoo and It didn’t really budge

The exfoliator and hand sanitizer combo means that I’ve now added bright red skin to the disaster!

Will try all the other suggestions bow!

Glycolic acid is a good exfoliator and I've found it's quite effective at removing hair dye from my skin.

MrsRubyMonday · 13/10/2021 09:06

If it's bad, I resort to a tiny amount of nail varnish remover on a cotton ball, or alternatively a tiny amount of neat bleach 😬 both probably terrible ideas but when my entire hands, ears and neck are grape purple and I have somewhere to be I tend not to care and just wash it off really well and add some moisturiser, it's never done any damage.

GrrrlPwr · 13/10/2021 09:15

Sunflower oil on a facecloth. Rub and rub. It will come off.

Next time put Nivea cold cream or something similar on the skin to form a barrier.

I use nail polish remover when all else failed. That was on my forehead and I had no adverse reactions.

Gavinandstacey32 · 13/10/2021 21:23

Did anything work OP?

IHopeYouStepOnALegoPiece · 15/10/2021 07:36

Thanks all!

Nail varnish remover won!

Then the photos were cancelled. But now I know for next time Grin

my daughter uses nail varnish and i was going to recommend it but i see you did it already.

When i used box dyes (I have embraced my grey now) i used to rub face cream round my hairline to stop it staining my skin. Vaseline was recommended but that felt horribly greasy and i had to use really hot water to get it off.

DappyApple · 16/10/2021 11:22

Another thing for future reference, is Elbow Grease spray cleaner on a flannel also works for fake tan!

Used it on dd for both when all else failed!

ArblemarchTFruitbat · 16/10/2021 11:24

I was going to suggest bicarb of soda but see you've got it off now.

ArblemarchTFruitbat · 16/10/2021 11:25

A tip to stop this happening - apply a peel-off face mask before dying.

ArblemarchTFruitbat · 16/10/2021 11:25

dyeing, not dying!

sueelleker · 16/10/2021 14:40

I think my hairdresser uses hydrogen peroxide solution.
