What age for double buggy?

If my ds is about to turn 3 or just turned 3, is a double buggy needed? I have no idea how long they use them for.

We walk a lot everywhere (I don't drive). What age do they stop using them?

Depends on the toddler and your lifestyle. Mine are 20 months apart and we never had a double buggy, but the toddler is/was a very co operative walker, and all the stuff we walk to is quite close. I would sometimes swap them and put the newborn in a sling if the toddler needed some time in the buggy on longer journeys.

I think if you regularly walk further than the toddler will manage (or under time pressure) then it’s a good idea to have a double.

A sling is a good alternative, also consider a buggy board. Double buggies aren't for everyone.

I made very good use of our double buggy when I had a 2yo and newborn. My 2yo was definitely not cooperative at all Grin I'd say by 3yo, however, we definitely didn't need it as much as he could walk further and tantrummed less. I reckon you wouldn't use it for long so probably not worth it unless you can pick one up very cheap / free. A buggy board for the toddler or sling for the baby is probably the best bet.

I used one for the first 9 months or so, so DC1 was 2.5-3 and a bit. Like you, I had no car and walked everywhere. It was necessary!

What will make your life easier?
How will you get them to the doctor if the eldest is ill?
Does your eldest still nap, like walking everywhere?
What if you need to catch that bus/train?
What if the weather is rubbish and you need to go somewhere?
Do you do all your shopping by foot? (In which case a newborn in a sling, a 3 year old and heavy shopping bags is not practical at all!)
How is your back? And how tall are you? Carrying a newborn in a sling and having to bend forwards to push the buggy will kill your back.

My DD was in a buggy til 4 and a few months. People stared and commented. Mainly those who then drove past us with their DC in their car seats or who had their DC in a bike trailer...

My youngest two are 20 months apart and I used my double for almost a year. DS is now almost 3 and he just refuses to go in it anymore, he regularly walks 3.2 miles and seems to love it. I’m going to list it on eBay this weekend and go back to using the single.

Depends on your three year old though. My DD was in her pushchair until she almost turned four. If I tried to walk with her for an extended period she’d inevitably start throwing a massive tantrum and it was just best to avoid that.

I didn’t with mine but I regret it and wish I did, I think he was too young to be walking everywhere, 3 year olds still get tired and we don’t drive so no different to be driven around in a car seat all day. People rave about slings but personally I hated them so wouldn’t recommend sling and buggy combo, I would get a double second hand you get lots of bargains.
