Best electric car for 120mi daily commute?

I'm in the recruitment process of a job that although it pays really well, I'd have to commute 60mi each way. I think any diesel/petrol car would be to expensive to run. Any suggestions? It looks like either the Tesla or the Zoe are the better options.

We are in the process of buying a VW Id.4 with the highest engine power and range. I believe the Hyundai Ioniq 5 has excellent range too - better than the VW - and is cheaper than a lot of Tesla's. Stunning visually, too.

I bought a Kia eNiro a year ago and highly recommend it.
250 mile range easily

A petrol or diesel car may be too expensive to run but electric cars are very expensive to buy and you'd have to save on a lot of fuel before you've got your money back on an electric car.

A small hybrid might be worth considering? I have a Toyota Yaris.

We'd lease not buy. With our current car we'd be spending about £600 on diesel pcm.

Some companies are starting to have electric car lease schemes through salary sacrifice. Might be worth asking about?

Can you charge the car at work?

The Hyundai Ioniq 5 is a brilliant thing, very well conceived. I'd be tempted myself if I didn't live in a flat with no on-street charging. There's the Kia EV6 imminent too, which is the same thing with a different body shape. I also like the look of the VW ID3, and the Cupra Born which is the same thing but with a swoopy front and different interior.

Lots of people like their Teslas but I didn't when I tried one (Model 3). I don't think the interior build quality was up to much and they're starting to get that BMW 3 Series 'wanker' image IMO. Their Supercharger network is very good though, although from later this year other electric cars will be able to charge at Supercharger stations so some of the advantage goes then.

I'm holding out for a Rivian R1S at the moment... waiting to see what they're going to cost.

Oh the other one to look seriously at is the Polestar 2

lastqueenofscotland · 12/10/2021 15:06

I currently do similar. For a short term while a house purchase goes through, my 2ltr golf is fantastic on fuel on the motorway thankfully and it’s not too outrageous cost wise. Be 300ish a month

pizzaobsessed · 12/10/2021 15:15

We've got a VW ID3 ProLife. About 230/240 miles out of a charge. Tesco also have free VW charging stations. Think our charging box at home cost about £300 installed as we had quite a distance between the electric meter box and the garage

MoonandMeMe · 12/10/2021 15:16

A Zoe using the ONTO app will cost you around £380pm with no other costs, no road tax and free charging.

Bramshott · 12/10/2021 15:17

I have a 3 year old Nissan Leaf which does 150 miles on a charge so it would probably do you okay (especially if you could plug it in on just a normal 3-pin plug whilst at work to trickle-charge a bit).

MoonandMeMe · 12/10/2021 15:25

Forgot to add, the Zoe ZE50 does around 235 miles.

Caspianberg · 12/10/2021 15:53

We have id4 on order. That would definitely do your 120miles easily.

The jaguar e pace is what I would have looked at if price not an issue
