Present after brain surgery

My best friend had brain surgery a few months ago. I still haven't been able to meet up with her (Covid!), but we talk regularly on the phone.
I've sent her flowers etc. but it's her birthday soon and I can't think of anything to get her. She's starting to get around a bit, but can't really go out. Clothes are out...she has loads, I've done flowers, toiletries are no use.
I'd like something quirky or fun...something different. Would anyone have any ideas? Thanks.

A jigsaw and a puzzle mat. Jaques of London are good for puzzle mats. You could even get a personalised jigsaw like this www.photobox.co.uk/shop/photo-gifts/photo-jigsaw or www.butlerandhill.co.uk/products/customised-map-jigsaw-puzzle

@Ricekrispie22 thank you so much...I love that idea! The jigsaw will help with her physio and her motor skills. I might get one made of the two of us Smile

When a good friend of ours had brain surgery, we got her a beautiful snuggly 'teddy bear blanket', an Audible subscription and a few other bits.

Lakeland heated throws are also amazing. I would live under mine in autumn/winter if I could!

Some more good ideas thanks....her house is always roasting, and her husband got some gorgeous blankets for her. She has a fantastic family

Afternoon tea delivered to the house is also a good one - you could enjoy that with her too

friendhelp27 · 13/10/2021 12:43

Afternoon tea would be a lovely idea....except she's coeliac, has Crohns and is trying to keep her weight down, which is hard with all the steroids she's on.

No wonder I'm all out of ideas Confused

How about a pillow to snuggle up with a personal photo on it?

Things that were amazing for me after neurosurgery were:

Letters (wasn’t always up for talking to people as got tired but could read these at my own pace and be entertained)
Crafts, got really into paint by numbers
Audio books as I couldn’t always focus on books
Short story and poetry books (as above, brain fog and tiredness)

You sound like a lovely friend

Gibsons do brilliant puzzles which are really fun.

I was going to suggest a heated throw! I was gifted one after I had surgery on my back. Pure bliss in the winter!

My favourite jigsaws are by Mike Jupp on their website

@whatnumber I got her a pillow which is a mini person with my face on it...sounds mad but they’re so funny. It’s a mini me to keep her company til we can meet up.

@Trisolaris I love your ideas...especially the crafts. Thanks for the compliment. There’s not much I can do, but we spend most of our phone calls laughing and taking the piss out of each other. I can’t wait to see her again.

Thanks everyone for your ideas. I’m going to put a little hamper together of them. This has been a great help.
