Advertised salary on a job i have seen

A job has come up that I would really like to apply for. They’ve given the salary range as £23,000-£24,000. My current salary is £25,000. I couldn’t take a pay cut but I wouldn’t be asking for anymore than £25,000. Would you still apply? I’ve not applied for a new job in 10 years so not sure if the salary bands they’ve given aren’t negotiable.

If it’s private sector I’d go for it - the job market is mental at the moment and most will go £1k above to get a good candidate.

To be honest you would prob take home/earn more on £24k because of tax & NI purposes

Check benefits too as they potentially could make up some of the shortfall - bonus? Car allowance?

I'd love to know how you worked that out.

This is bullshit. You clearly know very little about tax.

Er, no.
CSJobseeker · 11/10/2021 17:50

OP - yes, I would apply. Lots of employers are struggling to recruit right now, across a range of sectors. All they can say is no.

Tbh - because you'd be giving up a secure job and starting a probation period, I'd go in asking for more than £25k. At least £26k.

Thanks. I’m going to apply.

That’s not how numbers work.

Apply. If they offer you the job start to negotiate and explain you can't take a cut. If they want you they'll find an extra £1.5k per year.
