If I can't be arsed to cook and I'm watching my weight...

What should I get delivered?

DH on nights and I simply cannot be bothered to cook for myself.

Nothing delivered will be any good if calorie counting. Scramble a few eggs and out some wholemeal bread in the toaster then go to bed early before the hunger sets back in.

Butterflyfern · 11/10/2021 16:45

I usually force myself to make an omelette on nights like this. I usually have eggs, peppers, toms and mushrooms in the fridge though,so minimal effort. Eggs are great for filling you up

JollyHostess · 11/10/2021 16:46

I'm sure the above posters are right if that's an option but I would have thought sushi was a low (ish) calorie option?

emlouwat · 11/10/2021 16:47

Omelette

Kiduknot · 11/10/2021 16:48

Veggie subway is ok calorie wise. Or tuna

Nightbringer · 11/10/2021 16:49

Any restaurants nearby that do salads? Get the dressing on the side?

Personally I would just make something quick at home rather than have a takeaway if I wanted to lose weight. But also understand that some nights you fancy a takeaway.

MilkywayMonarch22 · 11/10/2021 16:50

Watching this thread! I'm unwell, trying to lose weight and only have the energy to cook tea for baby/hold baby and do a breastfeed while DH cooks her tea. Also I can't eat eggs or banana 😂

MrsMcCluskeysCat · 11/10/2021 16:52

Turkish/Greek sort of place is your best bet, or I sometimes get a chicken kebab and just eat the chicken and salad

You win the internet today!

I had an hour's swim (and steam) today too. Maybe that's enough for some stuffed vine leaves?

I was surprised at how (relatively) low calorie the Singapore noodles from Miso were

I am hoping that their own calorie estimation is accurate!

nancybotwinbloom · 11/10/2021 17:13

I came on to say kebab and leave the bread.

I quite often get a mixed grill from the Indian takeaway as it is just meat. No sauce. No rice. It means I can still have it on keto.

TheLastLonelyBakedBeanInTheTin · 11/10/2021 17:17

Yes chicken kebab, lots of salad, no mayo, no pitta or just a little bit of pitta. Add your own lower cal sauce at home. Lamb koftas or falafel with salad and some yoghurt dip wouldn't be too bad either.

Chinese I would get beef and broccoli or chicken chow mein. Avoid any sweet gloopy sauces and anything battered or chips.

Indian i would go for a Chicken Jalfrezi, with popadoms and raita (instead of naan, chutney and creamy sauces). Dahl, Saag Aloo or Bombay potatoes are all great lower calorie options too.

Mexican I would go for Chili and rice, serve with yoghurt instead or soured cream to slash the calories. Or chicken fajitas, without cheese or guacamole. Soft fish tacos also a good option, so long as you don't go crazy on the avocado/guacamole/soured cream etc.

American style I would have a small serving of chicken strips or tenders with beans/bbq beans and corn on the cob. No coleslaw, no dips, no chips. For maximum protein and servings of veg. I know KFC does snack wraps and rice boxes but I'm not sure how they fare! Burger place I would get whatever burger I fancy, but without sides, then add salad at home if they don't sell salad. Nothing really needs to be off Limits it's about making some swaps and deductions and not overdoing the carbs (and going wholegrain where you can).

Italian I would go for a thin and crispy base, and go for the vegetarian option. Or a pasta with a tomato based sauce, the creamy cheesy ones are delicious but also not great calorie wise and lots of fat too.

Thai curry can vary a lot, but is generally veg packed and not too calorific if you go easy on the rice and stay away from the tempura.

Sushi can be deceptive and they can pack quite a lot of calories into those delicious little parcels. It's a healthy option if you keep your portion size in check though.

If you have a Caribbean place, then Jerk Chicken or Curry Goat with rice and peas could be another good option.

TheLastLonelyBakedBeanInTheTin · 11/10/2021 17:21

Some pub grub/ carvery type places deliver too, and roast beef, veg, a couple of roasties and a bit of gravy is always a good meal, and not too crazy calorie wise, although higher fat if you order in obviously. Or my go to in those type of places is steak, a baked potato (I have half) with tenderstem broccoli or peas and grilled tomatoes if they do them.

hilbil21 · 11/10/2021 17:26

Chicken kebab is absolutely fine. I've lost 4 stone and it's always been my "go to" takeaway Smile

StrawberrySanta · 11/10/2021 17:43

I was going to say chicken kebab too, usually comes in a pitta bread here so not too bad. No garlic sauce though 😣

Allywill · 11/10/2021 17:56

If I’m dieting chicken kebab with salad is my go to takeaway. I make my own sauce with 0 fat yogurt, mint and a teaspoon of honey. Even if you eat the pitta it’s not too bad calorie wise.

MrsMcCluskeysCat · 11/10/2021 18:19

@JorisBonson enjoy! Some days you just need a cheeky takeaway and it's well deserved after that swim Smile

Pieceofpurplesky · 11/10/2021 19:34

Tandoori chicken (no sauce), plain rice and a chapati. Make your own sauce with yoghurt and spices/mango

peridito · 11/10/2021 21:06

@MilkywayMonarch22 sorry you're not well .That's the pits when you have a small baby .

Please don't diet and try and loose weight right now ,not when you're breast feeding .And especially not if you're unwell .

@TheLastLonelyBakedBeanInTheTin I've screenshotted your brilliant post for my.nezt takeaway dilemma!

I was going to say chicken kebab, the place we get them has the option of a wrap instead of a pitta but in all honestly one pitta won't derail a diet, I can never understand the MN hatred for bread Hmm

I get chilli sauce on mine because the kebab shop makes their own and it's fresh tomato and fresh chilli based, no mayo and very little oil
