I've buggered up my expensive specs - help!

I've been using what I think are alcohol-based spec wipes to clean the lenses and after six months or so I can see that the plastic frames have become cloudy - the alcohol or whatever are in the wipes has clearly taken the top sheen off the plastic :( I'm annoyed at myself for not considering this to be a possibility and having spent 300 quid on them I can't just bin them now.

Has anyone any tips on regaining a gloss on degraded plastic? My mum's suggested toothpaste but I am a bit concerned that's going to be more abrasive!

Thanks for any ideas...

@TheQueef I have to know how your ray bans wound up in the dishwasher Shock

I have used boiled linseed oil on plastic car bumpers that have faded and they came up good as new. Not suggesting linseed oil but another oil to get some moisture back in the plastic.

if you mean the plastic frames have gone dull, try wiping them with a cloth moistened with Armorall. Leave it to soak in then polish off with a soft clean cotton vest.

it is a milky-looking product used for restoring dull and faded plastic and rubber parts, commonly used on cars.

places like Halfords have it

do not spray it, and do not get it on the lenses. It is difficult to get off car windows, I don't know what it would do to lens coatings.
