Return of Childrens parties

My DC birthday is next month and I have provisionally booked an indoor party for around 15 children. It will be next month. I'm a little nervous about sending out the invites as due to covid parties were stopped and I am worried that I am not reading the room correctly.

If your DC age 10/11/12 was invited to a party would you accept or be offended because of covid.

No issue here with parties

We were at one on weekend and previously

Comedycook · 11/10/2021 15:51

It's fine...my dd went to an indoor birthday celebration and had one. No parents seemed concerned about covid

FawnFrenchieMum · 11/10/2021 15:53

Wouldn't bother me, they are at school and other extra-curricular activities, most likely with the same children.

Go for it. Lots of parties happening here. I see no issue with it. If someone is worried about it then they don't have to attend.

Been happening here since the summer, I have no problem with it at all - I would be pleased your child could have a nice celebration.

badlydrawnbear · 11/10/2021 16:25

Yes, DC1 is 10 and I would accept. DC2 is almost 7, and will soon be having a party at soft play, which is a bit of a germ-ridden hell at the best of times to be honest, but almost everyone invited is attending. No parents have told me there child can't come because of covid concerns.

Londono · 11/10/2021 16:44

Parties are go here too - although I haven't missed the party bag tat one bit!

BogRollBOGOF · 11/10/2021 16:59

I'd be delighted.

Mine don't get many invitations. DS1 (10) has ASD and one very close friend. DS2's class has an autumn cluster then nothing until mid-April so they've not had a proper birthday season for over 2 years since summer term 2019.

We went to a trampoline park at the weekend and I felt sorry for the tannoy guy sounding excited about the 10+ birthdays he was announcing in the hour we were there.
Long live normality!

DappledThings · 11/10/2021 16:59

Been to 5 children's parties this year so far. Would have been 6 if we hadn't been away for one of them. All busy. And nobody being weird about candles either thank goodness. Just blowing them out and sharing the cake as normal, not faffing about with clingfilm or separate cakes or any of that crap.

MarshaBradyo · 11/10/2021 17:01

Completely forgot candies thing

All normal at ours too.

Some dc missed a few birthdays so it’s really nice to see it back

WorraLiberty · 11/10/2021 17:06

I'd accept

But did you mean 'offended'? Surly you don't think people who would rather not take what they see as a risk and therefore decline, would be automatically offended?

OompaLumpaLabrador · 11/10/2021 17:18

DS had a party 2 weeks ago. All bar 2 kids came ( they were double booked). They had a great time and it was lovely to see them all together like this again. It was a bushcraft party in the garden so low risk, but I’d gladly accept any offer of a party for myself or my kids at this point!

lockdownmadnessdotcom · 11/10/2021 17:19

@WorraLiberty

I'd accept

Maybe OP has spent too much time on MN seeing the professionally offended.
HumunaHey · 11/10/2021 17:22

Wouldn't be offended but would politely decline as we have a small baby in the house.

Redjumper1 · 11/10/2021 17:39

@WorraLiberty IDK some people do think that you should do as they do and can be quite vocal about it. I would be hopeful that people would think like @HumunaHey and take the view that it is not suitable for their circumstance but not necessarily take offence.

I will go ahead and hopefully all will be like those who have responded . Thanks.

I might decline but I wouldn't be offended. I think going forward through difficult times we all have to accept others might make different decisions. What I'd like is for nobody to be offended if I am not comfortable with doing things (some people seem to take it as a criticism of their choices!)

Hapoydayz · 11/10/2021 17:44

Yes, there have been parties for months now. Plus they are in school together all day and various clubs. Now someone has mentioned it they all blew candles on the cake too then sliced it and handed it out. I didn't think about it at the time!
