Used the money to solve world hunger, bought your dream house and car, made everyone else you know rich, Now, how do you (productively) spend the rest of your life?

After you have done all the initial (boring and sensible) spending what business idea, dream, mad scheme or empire will you spend the rest of the (presumably unlimited) cash and time working on?

For me, buy an art/craft studio space that everyone can use for free and use as a social community and learning space.

Start a renewable energy company probably a domestic wind turbine manufacturer.

Sponsor/fund/build my own lab that will develop renewable energy technology e.g. more efficent batteries, affordable electric cars.

Start my own design studio for ultra sustainable buildings and employ a rotating crew of graduates to develop exciting new ideas.

Our dream: A theme park specifically designed for disabled children and adults (similar to Morgan's Wonderland in Texas), with every car parking space to be extra-wide, and all the accommodation disabled friendly (with different types of rooms). All members of staff to be fully trained. All park rides to be suitable/adapted for disabled entry. Basically everything that could be needed, provided. The only thing we won't be able to guarantee is the weather Grin

Luckydog7 · 10/10/2021 14:50

Oh that's wonderful!

I dunno I would wanna support my local schools with equipment and scholarships but also conflicted because even the staff bullied me at school and I know some still work there so would want apologies and such.

I think I'd want to also do lots of high level charity work and see the money making a difference and although I'd need more than a few lottery wins but also to run my favourite sports team.

Alpacinoshoohaa · 10/10/2021 15:23

Jennifer what a great idea.

Alpacinoshoohaa · 10/10/2021 15:24

Well id have fingers in lots of pies so over seeing it all would keep me busy.
I'd probably also buy cheap mouldy houses somewhere deprived and get rid of the mould, make sure them amazing and tent them to people who struggle to get rent.

Theredjellybean · 10/10/2021 15:27

Set up a charitable foundation and spend time supporting charities, reviewing applications for funding and making the money work to make more money to keep foundation able to give more money
I'd employ all. My family in the found so we all had a purpose

Disfordarkchocolate · 10/10/2021 15:28

I only work part-time so I'd keep on doing most of that.

I volunteer so I'd expand that. I'd really like my own little charity helping local people faced with specific issues. When you see people fundraising for special wheelchairs etc that sort of thing.

My husband would fund access to sport. Not just elite sport but grass roots access for people who can't afford kit, travel etc.

ChristmasFluff · 10/10/2021 15:29

Buy a big old house and do it up, to run free residential abuse recovery programs from.

Gladioli23 · 10/10/2021 15:30

I'd love to have a makerspace and combine it with lab space and collaborative working space. It would have space in the evenings for interesting talks and drinks, as well as all the equipment you can't justify having at home.

Separately, and not very interestingly, I'd really like to get the CAB set up so it was super well funded and so everyone knew to talk to them. So many people don't know what their rights are under our current systems because they're so complicated and I think this could help a lot of people.

RiaOverTheRainbow · 10/10/2021 15:32

I'd pay someone to cover my house in a living wall and garden it for me.

I'd also quadruple the local bus service and slash the fares, and put free wi-fi on every bus.

You've won the lottery...
LadyCatStark · 10/10/2021 15:37

I’d set up a nursery or couple of nurseries for children with SEND who haven’t yet got an EHCP for specialist nursery place. Or possibly a playgroup where parents could meet up too. Maybe a combination of both. I’d only charge the standard nursery fee and I’d accept 2/3 year old funding and pay for the rest myself. Funnily enough my closest colleague said she’d do exactly the same thing so it’s obviously needed and I’d employ her on a great wage (or she’d employ me if she won I guess!) and I’d employ my sister too (although I’d have already given her plenty of money) as we’re all specialists in early years SEND.

MintyCedric · 10/10/2021 15:39

Build, staff and continue to raise funds as necessary for a refuge village for women and children escaping domestic abuse.

16 self contained, fully furnished apartments built on secure site around a courtyard with a play area, sensory garden and picnic benches.

A community room, on site creche facility and visiting advisors to provide support with finances, legal advice, job seeking and eduction and counselling for both adults and children at the centre.

DD has just started her A levels but wants to become a criminal lawyer and ultimately set up a non-profit organisation to provide legal advice and representation for female victims of rape and sexual assaults I'd help her with that too (assuming I won the Euro!)

TheCanyon · 10/10/2021 15:43

I'd sit and procrastinate no doubt Grin

Actually I think I'd give it all to a charity of a progressive condition that I have.

amusedtodeath1 · 10/10/2021 15:43

Something to help ND adults get diagnosis and help.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 10/10/2021 15:43

I would build a replica Tudor village for reenactment. Lots of little houses and workshops, a farm and a small manor house and run immersive re-enactments, sometimes 24 hours. Obviously it would be very expensive to run because the land would need farming and the animals looking after even when my reenactor friends weren’t Tudoring there. It would incorporate a formal research department which would do experimental archaeology projects and other multidisciplinary research in collaboration with universities.

amusedtodeath1 · 10/10/2021 15:45

Refuge Village also something I have thought about MintyCedric.

Bananarice · 10/10/2021 15:48

I will make an annual event, where I give the winner £500 000 and pay off student loan debt up to contestant 10.

Who can find the most interesting way to show kindness, throughout the past year?

I hope this would encourage more acts of kindness in the world.

felulageller · 10/10/2021 16:12

A film studio as a social enterprise to help troubled people into jobs.

I'd set up a publishing company.

GoingOutOutNEVER · 10/10/2021 16:45

I’d not get up in the morning that’s for sure

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 10/10/2021 17:04

Some great ideas on here especially the women's refuge village.
I would set up a non profit housing association to provide decent houses for people on low to normal wages who struggle to find affordable places to rent.

I would put in place bursaries/scholarships at my local universities.

After reading about the difficulties some women go through with their stupid STBXH's I'd set up some kind of fund to provide the money for divorce costs for those women who do not qualify for legal aid but have no way of paying or getting any help with divorce/custody issue costs due to non-employment, no assets or low wages.
As of yet, you don't win billions on the lottery unfortunately it would be a case of first come first served.

I would also retrain as a 'nose'/perfumer & open my own perfume boutique along the lines of Floral Street/4160 Tuesdays.

Oh that would be wonderful, I would be your number one customer with my ds!

Mine would be to build a specialist school on every street corner for all who need them, free of charge i would pay for everything! Obvs would need to win the euros Grin

MotherWol · 10/10/2021 17:28

Similar to @Theredjellybean I’d establish a grant-making foundation to give money to charities; I’d like to focus on small grassroots projects where £5-£10k can make a big difference. I’d also like to fund children’s and youth projects as they’ve been hard hit by funding cuts over the years. I’ve done a fair bit of grant writing over the years and I really enjoy hearing people explaining their projects, so I think I’d be quite good at it and it’d keep me nicely busy!

DuvetDayIsEveryDay · 10/10/2021 17:36

Scholarships for young single mums to go back to college with travel, childcare, lunches and books paid for.

Pay for children in care (residential homes) to go on great holidays.

Support Multiple Sclerosis society.

myheartskippedabeat · 10/10/2021 18:37

I'd provide some accommodation for families who's family members are in the local hospital especially for families with relatives on end of life but also fathers and birth partners of ladies having babies and patients who come in for dialysis. This is because I know a lot have to travel daily and the local hospital covers a lot of rural areas and it's expensive and difficult if people can't drive
Or don't have a car at a time it's important to maintain family ties
