Was at a friends wedding on friday night. Woke up today feeling a bit rubbish so did a lft and its positive. Got a pcr booked in for an hours time but mortified at the fact that i may have spread covid at this wedding.

I did a lft on the friday morning as i was travelling for a work meeting and it was negative. But obviously todays positive would put me as contagious on that friday night.

Would this be too soon for symptoms to show if i cought it from someone else at that wedding, or my meeting?

You did all the right things. Don't beat yourself up about it. Take care.

Branleuse · 10/10/2021 10:03

you did a test before you went so im not sure what else you could have done. It could have been anyone. You havent knowingly gone out and spread it to anybody

LawnFever · 10/10/2021 10:05

You did all the right things, it’s impossible to know exactly where and when you picked it up, obviously you would’ve stayed home if you’d got a positive back on the lateral flow.

Don’t give yourself a hard time, hope you feel better soon.

You could just have easily picked it up there, there's no way of knowing. Some people come out with symptoms quicker than others.

I did see a video from someone clever and scientific talking about the reliability of LFTs, and she said although they're not that accurate at showing if you're infected, they are pretty reliable at showing if you're infectious to others, so if you tested negative that day you probably weren't shedding virus all over the place. Get well soon 💐

saraclara · 10/10/2021 10:25

Yep. I'd have thought they if the lft was negative, you probably weren't infectious. I'm no scientist, but presumably there's a relationship between what's in the mucus that creates a positive response in the test, and what you're breathing out?

INeedNewShoes · 10/10/2021 10:25

Assuming it wasn't a tiny wedding and there were c.100 people there, even if you already had it and were contagious, it is very very likely that another guest or two would also have been positive so I'm afraid you can't take all the credit if it was passed around there!

Equally, I'm sure I've read that Covid can incubate in as little as 2 days so you could have caught it there.

Covid is absolutely rife at the moment in some areas of the UK. I know so many people who have it or have had it in the last month.

Please stop worrying about it. You'd done everything right. And now you need to rest and look after yourself.

No it wasnt a small wedding so i suppose the odds of me being the only one is small.

Haven't told anyone yet... I know i have the positive lft, but feel i should wait till i get the pcr result back, or should i warn people now?

Well pcr has come back negative!! Panic over, saw an article about this happening, people getting positive lft and then a negative pcr, so might mean a dodgy batch of lft circulting in the country...

The article I read says isolate regardless if you have symptoms- you may get a positive PCR later?
makingmiracles · 11/10/2021 06:30

You should still assume it’s covid, lots have had that and they are investigating why pcrs share not showing positive. Do another pcr by post as they think it could be problems with reginal lab.

ChatterMonkey · 11/10/2021 09:42

I wouldnt be able to treat it as covid with a negativr pcr... My work would not entertain me self isolation when i have a negative pcr test, which i completely understand.

My mild symptoms have gone, i have a negative pcr test so as far as i can see I've done everything asked of me correctly, but this is the end of it?

If there is some big new issue with a new strain, or issues with testing, then its not my call to over rule the current government guidelines. If this is a bigger issue than a faulty lft, then the powers that be can update the rules...

I wouldn't worry OP, like others have said you're probably not the only one

Also agree on the negative PCR and work, I'm a nurse and if we have a negative PCR we need to come back to work, the 10 days isolation is no more for us unless it's a positive PCR.
