DP gave me money this morning to 'buy yourself something nice'
Off I tripped into town and nothing Sad
I wanted a nice dress for an event next weekend and some autumn / winter clothes

I always find clothes when I'm NOT looking. If I go out to find something on purpose it's always a disaster!

Also there is some utter crap in the shops this year- some very strange unflattering shapes around (just me?)

Re the money - I get where people are coming from. The concept of a partner handing me cash and telling me to get myself something nice is completely and utterly foreign to me! However, I actually think it's really nice! An unexpected gift and you can buy whatever you like! I think I'm missing a trick here!

Yep, if I don't have much to spend I find loads of stuff, if I have money to spend then I never find anything! I think the reason in part at least is that when I don't have money I see stuff I like, but don't apply the same level of diligence as I know I'm not actually going to buy it; when I have money I think a lot harder about whether I like it enough to buy it.

you have helped me stop feeling guilty that I went way over this months budget buying clothes I liked at sale prices yesterday - two things from one sale, and one from another, so not truckloads...

I was feeling a bit bad about the money spent, but you are dead right - when I want some nice new clothes I won't find them, so good thing I've tucked them away in my wardrobe this weekend when I came across a few bits I really like!

I couldnt find anything decent for a wedding a couple of years ago - I ended up spending a lot on a dress I didn't really like, wearing it one, and giving it to a charity shop

@PearLime there are some awful shapes out I agree, long shapeless dresses, jumpers cropped so short they wouldn't cover your boobs!!!!

For those being sniffy, I was in a marriage where my husband would ask for the money back if I bought shampoo in the weekly shop, so to be with a man who just likes to be kind because he can be is fabulous

It’s always the way unfortunately

@Perfect28

Oh, partner not husband. But still. It's odd, and old fashioned.
I have my brother £50 yesterday to “treat himself”

You’re peculiar

Agree shapeless stretchy fabrics, baggy shapes, no structure and poor quality fabric that will warp and bobble.

I think it's lovely personally! A surprise gift is always lovely isn't it? Make you feel appreciated.

Oh yeah go shopping specifically for an outfit for an occasion or make the use of sales etc. Find nothing

Pop in for a totally different reason, not looking see loads of things I like but don't have the time to try on or look further into the shop
