Robert Welch cutlery - which style and are they ever reduced?

After some deliberation and kind input from the folks at Mumsnet, I'm considering buying some Robert Welch cutlery. I will try their sample service (which is one of the major attractions of the brand, despite what I consider to be eye-watering prices!) but would also be grateful for recommendations as to which 'pattern'/style and why? I'm thinking RW are unlikely to offer discounts if they are so popular. I wouldn't mind buying them at today's prices if necessary, but would feel a bit gutted if I found out I could have bought them for a lower price somewhere else or waited for Black Friday/ January sales. Does anyone happen to know if they are ever reduced? Many thanks!

Following. I like collection 5.0. John Lewis has displays so you can feel the cutlery, I think that's important in choosing as you might prefer heavier / lighter styles.

My husband also asks does anyone know which range they use in Pizza Express?! Grin

We bought some on offer in John Lewis (over 10 years ago mins!)

@MRex - Yes, I agree... they look lovely and heavy duty.

@icklekid - How are they holding up after 10 years, out of interest? I wonder if the 'satin'/brushed finish stands up to wear better than the 'bright/shiny finish'?

Ohh I’m still really happy with them! Still pretty shiny I’d say

We have the Stanton bright 42 piece set, bought for us for our wedding 22 years ago at John Lewis (when it was just called Stanton). It is still sold there so has obviously stood the test of time. It is heavy and smoothly rounded, well balanced and easy to hold.
Two of the teaspoons now taste metallic on the front edge, so they are starting to need replacing, but over 20 years is good going.

MrsH201 · 09/10/2021 17:25

That’s good to know @icklekid - I’m all about longevity!

@BeyondMyWits - I was looking at Stanton Bright actually. It’s beautiful. Mind you, they all are! Smile

@BeyondMyWits - I’m probably being very ignorant, but I was just wondering why the spoons would taste metallic?

I have the Malvern Bright, have had it for ten years and it looks great (but it’s not my everyday cutlery). It’s just really nicely weighted and lovely to hold. I bought the original set and then some additional bits later on from their shop in Chipping Campden, I’ve never seen them have reductions.

15 years later ours are perfect. Just always open the dishwasher when it's finished, dont leave the steam on the cutlery. It makes the knives go pitted. Love using ours every day

I have a set of Robert Welch Radford Brights which were pricey, but well worth the money. I like the weighty feel of them.

I was really chuffed when I stayed in a stylish 5 star hotel in Singapore and they had the same cutlery in their restaurant!

RW do a service of sending out samples, which was helpful when deciding which style to go for.

We’ve got Kingham and really love it. Shiny has stayed shiny. My advice is think about spoon shape - I found some of them strange which was the decider for us, along with a decent weight handle on the knife.

We are not wealthy by any stretch of the imagination but treated ourselves with some gifted money and I don’t regret it for a minute. Well worth the £££

UnfinishedBunting · 09/10/2021 18:45

I've got Radford shiny, it's still lovely after 10+ years. I think it will last forever (well, longer than me).

Callmecordelia · 09/10/2021 19:02

I've had mine since 2004. They were a wedding present and one of the best things I have ever bought - they give me pleasure every time I use them. They are still perfect.

MrsH201 · 09/10/2021 23:46

Thank you all so much. You've reassured me that it's worth the investment Smile

Does everyone put theirs in the dish washer? We keep ours for special occasions because I’ve insisted on hand washing them but seems crazy having them sat in a drawer.

EmmaGrundyForPM · 10/10/2021 06:29

We bought ours in 1996, so 25 years ago. Still as good as new. We bought Ammonite, not sure if they still do it. We went to the Chipping Campden shop and looked at every style, but that was the one we liked best. It's probably now very dated but I still love it.

We don't use it as everyday cutlery, and don't put the knives in the dishwasher.

Callmecordelia · 10/10/2021 06:39

Used everyday here, and put in the dishwasher since we bought it.

Laaaaa · 10/10/2021 06:48

I prefer my Denby cutlery and much cheaper
