I don't ever remember them living into October. Absolutely sick of them!!

Jar of apple cider vinegar and small amount of washing up liquid with clingfilm over the top. Poke some holes in. I was amazed how many it attracted. Problem solved for us. I agree, I hate fruit flies 😫

We have a veritable biblical plague of the fuckers in our house.
Will try the vinegar jar method.

Look for the rotten piece of fruit or veg lurking somewhere. In my house it's usually a sign that a single apple has been left to go wrinkly in the fruit bowl!

I'm having the same issue and do as LadyLothbrook but I also add a tiny bit of sugar as it seems to attack them quicker. I can't have any fruit in a basket just now and have resorted to keeping bananas in the microwave. Pretty sure the microwave will now permanently smell of bananas.

GiantCheeseMonster · 09/10/2021 11:52

They could be fungus gnats. They lay eggs in the soil of house plants. Use yellow fly paper and scariad fly nematodes to treat them.

Was just about to say this, I thought I had fruit flies until I moved a plant and loads flew out in my face Envy (not envy!) I put aquarium gravel on the top of the soil of all of my houseplants and that got rid of them.

I've had vinegar out for months :(

They might not be fruit flies but drain flies; pour a drop of bleach into each sink drain and put the plug in.

LadyLothbrook · 09/10/2021 18:03

Sounds daft but are you use apple cider vinegar or a different kind? It needs to be ACV.

BertieBotts · 09/10/2021 18:12

Agree you probably have something fermenting away somewhere.

Defo put some bleach/toilet duck and boiling water down your drains to check those. If you wash up, the draining board drain hole can be a culprit, it gets rank in there.

Plump82 · 09/10/2021 18:20

Agreed, needs to be apple cider vinegar

DaxtheDestroyer · 09/10/2021 18:22

Boiling water down the kitchen drain solved this for us.

Vinegar only traps the ones that are already flying around which is no help. You need to find where they are breeding and eliminate that.
