I’m so excited about something I can’t sleep

Honestly I’m like a child (or me, to be fair…) at Christmas! It’s going to be a long month at this rate

Moved from London to Denmark just over a year ago. Moved alone and haven’t seen any friends or family in that time and due to covid/passport I haven’t been able to get back and I’ve been v v homesick.

Just booked flights to go back for a visit next month and I’m beside myself with excitement (mainly because I get to eat Greggs, cheese and onion crisps and good Indian food but suppose I’m a bit excited about friends and family)

I really hope anyone who has been away from their people gets to visit them soon! It’s been a suckfest of a year fir it! X

Our bacon is crap because we sell all the good bacon to uk 😂

IHopeYouStepOnALegoPiece · 09/10/2021 18:09

Are you in Denmark too @frutyloops? Do you know of a secret magic place to get proper bacon Grin

How exciting OP!! I'll join you if I may, next weekend we're going to London and seeing my Brother and SIL and some very dear friends for the first time since before the pandemic.

2 weeks later we're going to Denmark on holiday which is the first time DP and I have been somewhere that neither of us have been to before, so we can discover it all with fresh eyes together Smile

(Duly noted about the sausages and bacon).

vajingleberry · 09/10/2021 18:25

@ IHopeYouStepOnALegoPiece I am in SW France.

Can't wait for my Indian meal it's not like I already know what I am going to be ordering - no, no, no

If it weren't for the fact that we are staying in a hotel, I would also be adding a double sausage and egg mcmuffin with a hash brown to my list of essentials, but I can't entirely guarantee that I wouldn't if I am up early enough Grin

IHopeYouStepOnALegoPiece · 09/10/2021 19:54

I’m loving everyone’s exciting visits! So joyful!

Oh enjoy Denmark ImInStealthMode! I’ve only seen Copenhagen so far but I hear wonderful things about the rest of dk! Sausages and bacon suck here Grin bread, butter and pastries are great though!

I don’t know about sw France vajingleberry but Indian food absolutely sucks here, it’s awful! I have an Indian friend here who makes wonderful curry and she’s a joy to have around Grin

Mcds does the McMuffins here but not the hash browns! What’s the point! So hash browns also on my list!

Told my best mate I was coming back for a few days and she said “Yes! Oh we have 30 days to plan what we’ll eat!”

Knew I loved her Grin

Same here. Even the spices you can buy are wishy-washy (and I am definitely more Korma than Vindaloo!).

IHopeYouStepOnALegoPiece · 10/10/2021 10:23

Yes! And they use weird shit on it here! I had a tikka masalas (because you can’t mess up a tikka surely! Yes. Yes you can. ) which was a korma dyed red and drizzled in maple syrup. Up there in one of my worst meals ever Grin

I used to live in Sydney and they put carrots in curry. I mean, wtf?? I love Australia but that (and their love of beetroot) are their downsides.

IHopeYouStepOnALegoPiece · 10/10/2021 13:26

Oh nooo!! That’s an abomination!

Those who have gone back home (Vajingle etc) how was it!?

Just scrolling down this thread as I'm holding on the BA phone lines (1 hour and counting....) to change our flight out of Aus (which I'm clearly not going to be on as they cancelled the flight going out and expected me to swim!) in to DS's name. Hoping, praying, fingers crossed that he'll be able to get home from Sydney for Christmas.

And if he tells me he's coming for the food, I won't be impressed!!! Grin

IHopeYouStepOnALegoPiece · 28/10/2021 08:58

Oh how did you get on ajandjjmum?!

My bestie is an Aussie and hasn’t been home in 2y and is hoping she’ll be able to in Dec - she’s had a shocker of a couple of years and I am so so hoping she is able to get hone - I will breath easy when she boards that plane!

So I phoned BA, spoke to a very nice woman and outlined my issue, she said I needed to speak to another department. Said she would put me through and came back a couple of times to say she was still waiting, and after 1 hr. 51 mins. the line went dead.

I was fuming - still am. BA are an absolute crock of shit these days.

Still bubbling this morning, so got up early and booked DS on a Singapore Airlines flight in early December (and am just about to cancel with BA - who clearly have lost all interest in providing customers with service) as he wants to be here for the run-up to Christmas, and work are happy for him to work from the UK for a few weeks.

So happy! Although still with fingers crossed and bated breath.

vajingleberry · 28/10/2021 15:01

@IHopeYouStepOnALegoPiece

It was just lovely. Flying was very straightforward and everything was on time.

Couldn't manage to finish the indian meal (waaaay out of practise!)
No option for leftovers as Day2 involved a proper Sunday roast - even I have my limits Grin

Turns out there was a McDs right opposite the hotel and I considered having a sneaky one when I ventured out to get the Sunday papers (another much-missed luxury) but TBH the hotel breakfasts were so good it seemed a shame to spoil my appetite.

We now have enough tea to last until our Christmas trip - when we will have the car, so no pesky hand luggage limits.

....oh, and my new grand-daughter is the most beautiful baby ever I may be biased here

IHopeYouStepOnALegoPiece · 29/10/2021 12:54

Oh that sounds like a lovely trip vajingleberry! Two days isn’t enough o eat all the missed food! Grin

Congratulations on beautiful baby Tesco! Grin
I’m meeting a friend for brunch when I’m back and she said “oh I’ve found a cafe that does a great sounding Danish breakfast!”
No. I want proper English breakfast! Don’t ruin this for me 😂

ajandjjmum yay! Lovely! Fingers crossed x

Counting down the days to Christmas and more Tesco cuddles Grin

Hope you don't get to have the Danish breakfast!!

My MIL always insists that we bring over a baguette when we come, despite me pointing out that baguettes are readily available in the UK. The baguette is not at its best after a two hour flight stuffed into a rucksack, and it certainly isn't nice the next day.

Why would I want my bacon in a stale baguette when I have access to a lovely fresh bap????

I don't even eat baguettes here in France
