What shall I buy my one year old?

For his first birthday in a couple of weeks?

We don't have a huge amount of space but money isn't a concern. He likes things that make noise / do stuff, but already has lots of musical items. He doesn't watch tv so not interested in a tablet or similar. No interest in cuddly toys.

If you have or know a baby of a similar age, what's gone down well? Thanks!

A skuttlebug is a great 1st birthday present

FionnulaTheCooler · 08/10/2021 16:20

Another for a scuttle bug.
The red and yellow tike car.
Slide for garden.
Books with flaps
Bright starts silly spout wale popper.
These all went down well at DC 1st birthday

bath toys

popcorndiva · 08/10/2021 16:25

Yep cozy coupe will last a few years and can be kept in the shed if you have one.

TheUndeadLovelinessOfDemons · 08/10/2021 16:25

I bought DS3 a V-Tech tambourine for Christmas at that age.

roarfeckingroarr · 08/10/2021 16:29

I'm a single parent in a 2 bed London flat - we have shared gardens and a terrace but not enough space for proper outdoors stuff like the cozy coupe or a slide.

These are great suggestions!!

I saw a kid on a micro scooter with a seat the other day, it had a sort of parent push bar. Anyone had one of those or is he a bit young?

Don’t buy a child a tablet Sad

Willthewashingeverend · 08/10/2021 16:33

We got ours a trike with a parent handle that can be removed as they get older and can pedal themselves.

roarfeckingroarr · 08/10/2021 16:34

@ButterflyAway no intention of doing so, just preempting suggestions.

The scuttle bug is really small and the wheels fold into the seat so much smaller to store than a bike and easy to carry on the pushchair if needed to get down to the park.

roarfeckingroarr · 08/10/2021 16:40

Love the trike with parent handle idea. Can you recommend a brand please @Willthewashingeverend ?

I've purchased a Scuttlebug :D

Plus:
A little tykes mini climbing frame with slide
Flappy books
A ride on squishy seated bumble bee

Thomas the tank my first Thomas

That'll do pig.

Oh that bee is good, my mum had one of those at her house which the nephews still ride even though they’re far too big for it!!

Etherealhedgehog · 08/10/2021 17:55

Sounds like you're sorted, but as another parent of an approximately one year old in a small London flat, I can highly recommend one of those pop up tunnel things. Folds down to almost nothing so it's pretty much the only garden/big toy style thing we can have, and DD loves it

roarfeckingroarr · 09/10/2021 08:52

@Etherealhedgehog I bought one a while back but he didn't quite get it. Will get it back out, great suggestion.
