hello. don't know if someone has already made a thread about this but i'm responding to the news article from a few days ago about some of the shocking accidents caused to children who's parents have bought toys online. it put the fear of god in me and i don't have kids but if i did it would put me off buying toys from anywhere that wasn't a physical highstreet shop. what have your experiences of this? i'm guessing if its from somewhere like amazon the safety checks would be carried out but obviously it seems that little is being done.

Yes of course. I don't see any difference between buying online or from a physical shop.

Have you only just discovered the internet? I promise it's not as dangerous as it looks!

I have pre schoolers, so I only buy from brands and/or shops that I recognise (often online). A family member sends a lot of cheap knock off stuff from Amazon with no CE marks etc and I hide it away as I'm sceptical of the safety standards.

If my kids were older and I wasn't worried about choking and it was just a case of poor quality I'd be less concerned.

Perhaps stay clear of eBay, because of cheap knock offs. You'll be fine with Amazon, Smyths, Entertainer etc

It's not that the toys are bought online, it's that sometimes sellers are selling knock offs or toys that have not had safety checks. If it is of particular concern then buy from a well known retailer not Amazon or eBay or somewhere were people sell through a 3rd party. Or if you do, check the product for appropriate labels/markings before giving to a child.
I think you have blown this up in your head to a bigger issue than it is.

lol of course i haven't only just discovered the internet but i rarely buy anything online except the odd dvd that's why i was quite shocked at the news report i watched and the findings. bought toys for other families dc before yes but usually whilst on a town shopping trip for other things

I think the point the OP is making is random online suppliers, not say buying from smyths and getting it delivered rather than going into the physical shop.

Amazon, now things aren't always supplied by amazon, is a question mark for me to be honest, as is eBay. I was looking recently to get things for a dressing up box, and realised how many of the suppliers were direct from china and remembered the differing safety standards around things being flammable etc. Think now we're used to buying our groceries etc online it seems like another form of delivery, rather than realising that you're actually accessing things that may not legally be allowed to be sold in a shop.

I do think online retailers should have more responsibility here.

i was meaning buying things like that online in general as i have never done it so wondered if the positive stories outweighed the negative ones often portrayed by the media who tbh do seem to love scaring the bejesus out of people
