What to do in London with a 6yo

I've booked a hotel to go to London for a night in October half term, so we have two days to explore. It's been ages since I've been to London, so any recommendations?

I was hoping to see a matinee show but I'm absolutely staggered by the price now. I would be paying for 3 tickets (me, DD and my mum) so it's immediately priced me out as they all seem to be about £150 each!!!

I want to take her to see Buckingham Palace - would the changing of the guard be on, on a Thursday or Friday? If so, where do you go to see it?

London Transport Museum is great, but not free. Then a wander round Covent Garden.

Don’t do a tour bus! Traffic is so slow you could - no really - die of boredom. I took time visiting family on one - it took us an hour to get from
Notting hill to regent street (where there was a mutiny, they got off and refused to get back on the bus).

I would recommend changing of the guards at Horseguards Parade and then walking through St James' Park to Buckingham Palace.
Then picking up sightseeing bus round towards Tower of London and then get the riverboat back to Westminster/Embankment/Festival Pier depending on where you are staying.

Have a look at the Southwark centre for kids activities

We will be in town for my dd2's 7th birthday and she is desperate to go on London Eye so we are doing that and Horrible History boat trip.

I did a fun trip the other week with my 3 and 6 year olds where we went on the cable car return trip from Greenwich then went on the clipper boat to Westminster. We wandered past the Houses of Parliament and Westminster Abbey then played in St James Park for a bit. Low key but fun and you see lots of sights from the cable car and boat.

We did the kids tootbus with similar age - they weren’t hugely fussed tbh - lots of sights that they aren’t hugely bothered by. River tour was more fun I think because same sort of sights but added bonus of being on a boat! We did Terrible Thames so pretty kid friendly
