Food Ninja or Pressure Cooker

Just that really. Want to save time so pressure cooker/instant pot fits the bill, but would I be better off with a Food Ninja? One that air fries chips etc for weekly meals my kids might not moan about (they are sick of baked and steamed potatoes!). Any thoughts or tips would be appreciated!

I don’t know, but following because DH wants a Ninja Foodie. From what I remember of the endless videos he’s shown me it’s a pressure cooker as well as an air fryer. Thing is, I’m not 100% sure what you do in a pressure cooker (besides whole chickens according to the videos Confused)

Absolutely love my Ninja airfryer! We bought the double drawer one and my teens love it. Perfect for snacks such as nuggets, fries, burgers, sausages, which they can do.

It is the best gadget we've bought!

I use it for things like crisping baked potatoes, reheating food, cooking meat before it goes in the hot pot etc. It's fast, safe and convenient.

We looked at a Halogen oven (as we could fit pizzas etc in) but it looked fiddly and I worried about accident prone teens burning their hands on the glass lids if forgetting to pick it up with oven gloves etc.

Only we got it off Amazon in August as we could pay in five installments so it didn't seem like such a big buy.

Thanks very much for the info. Looks like I need to invest in a Ninja!

I have a Ninja 9 in 1. I love it, hardly use my oven now. I have used it to airfry, pressure cook, slow cook, grill and bake.

I have the Ninja Foodie AG551UK. I use it every day and not once has it ever let me down, cooking to perfection every single time. What I didn't know before aI bought it is you can't use two settings at the same time, for example you can't airfry chips whilst using the grill for steak. It's totally work-roundable (if that's not a word it should be) by cooking steaks first then airfrying chips whilst the steaks rest on a warm plate. A bit frustrating at times, but I would still very highly recommend the Ninja range.

I don't understand air fryers but I do understand pressure cookers! They cook faster, so a 4 hour casserole can be done in half an hour etc. You can also do rice, dried beans, steamed puddings etc much faster in one. We've got an instant pot, I use the pressure cooker function quite a lot. Eg rice in there to keep the hob clear and so I don't have to watch if it's boiling over.

HaplessHetty · 08/10/2021 17:26

Wolfiefan I joined the Ninja UK Facebook group for the recipes.

romany4 · 08/10/2021 17:47

Ninja all the way.
I use it for every meal. I don't remember the last time I used my cooker

Wolfiefan · 08/10/2021 17:48

Must look at that. Thanks @HaplessHetty

Kolingpursey · 08/10/2021 17:48

Pressure cookers are amazing things! Soup, casseroles, chilli con carne, chickpeas, very very soft meat.. Ninja does frying. Depends on what you really do most frequently. I personally would get the pressure cooker, as I can just fry in the pan and don't feel frying is complete unless a bit of olive oil is involved 😄!

Have you got the app? I think there are some recipes there.
Wolfiefan · 08/10/2021 20:13

@middleager there’s an app???? Shock

BlueStargazer · 09/10/2021 07:31

@middleager can you cook different things at the same time eg steak and chips in the two drawers and maybe pressure cook veg all at the same time in the Ninja you have?

My instant pot has just died with zero hope of redemption- their customer care line could offer no help and just offered me a 10% off coupon - STILL cheaper to replace on Amazon.

I’m now looking at just a good old fashioned stove-top prestige which won’t have a tantrum and do beeping and disco lights at me.

Sorry to hear yours died! I didn't even know about the stove tops. I might go for one as I think would be easier to store in a cupboard and off my worktop. Plus I hate bleeps. I have enough gadgets bleeping at me already.

I love the Instant Pot. I think it depends what you want it for really, I'm quite a traditional cook and love to do casseroles, risottos, curries, ribs etc. We have chips probably once a week so no need for an air fryer yet. I do think they look great but I'm happy with the IP because I think it suits my style of cooking more.

I'm like you. I make paella, casseroles and soups. Only chips maybe once a week. One child is vegetarian so I don't cook much meat. Thinking the instant pot now. Really like the look of the stove top, but I want something I can just leave and not worry about switching the gas off.

The Ninja Foodi and the Instant Pot Duo Crisp, are both pressure cookers and air fryers, there's no reason to contrast pressure cooking to air frying, they both do both.

'cos the smaller Duo Crisp is not available in the UK, If you only need the small model it's the ninja you'll want, but that's probably a bit small for more than 2 people as an air-fryer, so worth spending the little bit more for the next size up anyway. I don't think you could say which is better as it will depend on specific biases you have to the things you cook.

You would do steak in one drawer and chips in the other.
We bought the Ninja Dual for this flexibility and because I'm vegetarian, so we can cook different foods.

You can (if they are ever in stock) buy an insert, shelf, so you can divide the drawer into top and bottom (as you would an oven) so you could could steak on the top and chips underneath etc. then do veg in the other drawer.
