AIBU to think this is the company's problem not mine?!

I sent a piece of jewellery to an online repair service a few weeks ago. It was meant to be returned via Royal Mail special delivery and insured on that basis.
Two weeks ago I was told that it had been delivered and signed for on a day I wasn't at home. The name on the Royal Mail signed for receipt was a random man's name and none of our neighbours have any idea about it.
The company are now saying it's not their problem and their insurance won't cover it as Royal Mail insist it was delivered. But it wasn't! And I can't get hold of anyone at Royal Mail as I wasn't the one who posted it back.
Anyone know anything official I can say?! I just want my necklace - but failing that I'd like the money to buy another one!

YANBU, I have no words of wisdom but surely this is an issue the repair company should resolve, not you!

When DD's laptop was mis-delivered by Royal Mail (or possibly parcel force) they were able to provide GPS tracking to show where it had gone. We went round there and picked it up. Thankfully they were honest people!

Do they have a social media presence? If so get on there and tell the world they are doing nothing to resolve that someone has nicked your stuff.

YANBU. They posted it, it’s on them to deal with any issues with postage.

It shows on the Royal Mail tracking as an area that probably encompasses my next door neighbours house and the one next to theirs! But no picture of the delivery, or confirmation of the door number. The company forwarded me their correspondence with Royal Mail which boiled down to 'we've had a chat with the postman, he says he delivered it so that's that'. And the company are saying on that basis their insurance wouldn't pay out...! I just have no idea what to do! Good idea re social media but I can't find them on Twitter...

It's their problem to sort out. They haven't fulfilled their part of the contract
I would ask them for their insurance details so your insurance can chase it up, they could tell you anything

They're now saying because I mentioned the small claims court they're letting their lawyers handle it! Any ideas what I can say?!

Once you've threatened small claims court they aren't going to talk to you. You may need to do what you threatened.

Do you have a local FB group? Could you post the name and ask if this is anyone and a picture of the necklace saying it's important to you.
In a royal mail buggered up way not in a who's nicked my stuff way.

Say nothing

NotYourCupOfTea · 07/10/2021 17:53

I would put a note or knock on neighbours doors to see if anyone has it

HalzTangz · 07/10/2021 18:43

The signature will be your postman's, since the pandemic started postie's and couriers are the ones signing for deliveries. If you have a regular postie I'd start with questioning him.

Have you also been to the sorting office. Postie could have signed thinking you were in the returned to sorting office and forgot to leave a card. My office don't put parcels back out on next delivery unless booked online

Have you spoken with those neighbours? Seems pretty clear one of them has it? Or it was left on their property - safe space maybe? And signed for by postie
isitwinetimeyet16 · 08/10/2021 05:39

Oh I've tried all the neighbours - no one has seen it!

The issue for the company is a far as they are concwrned it’s been delivered and they have evidence of that with the signature so you couldn’t just be denying you have it.
This is where photos of the delivery address are really good as you can pin point exactly where it was delivered.
As others have said try the sorting office and asking the postie.
I recently had a parcel delivered to the wrong address only got it back because there was a photo so I knew where to look and they gave it to me.

benelephant · 08/10/2021 06:56

I had this (although with Yodel not the postman). They said the tracking shows him at your address, so tough. I tracked it down eventually to a house about ten doors away. The owner hadn't been home and they'd left it round the back. I had to visit ever house in the postcode to find it though. If I couldn't have found it then it would have been for the company and yodel to argue it out. If they just took photos it would have been so much easier. Good luck 🤞

Sounds like it’s been delivered, have you neighbours checked bins, plant pots etc. Was it bigger than letterbox size?
