Prescriptions From Private Companies

I used to order medicine from a company who delivered it to my door. Now the only way to get it is by prescription which the company sends to a local chemist & you collect it there. I already get this particular medicine prescribed but it’s not enough. If I get the prescription sent to a different chemist from my usual one, will they be able to see my list of prescribed products? I’m presuming not because the prescription isn’t from my GP.

I suggest if you need additional medication, you should speak to your GP, taking more medication than is prescribed can be dangerous.

As above, but I suspect you already knew that given the lengths you are going to to hide it. What medication is it? Pain relief?

Is this a controlled drug?

When I used to order it, I didn’t take too much daily, it was just that the amount prescribed didn’t last long enough. It’s codeine.

If you're not taking too much, how are you running out?

DownToTheSeaAgain · 07/10/2021 16:58

The GP will prescribe the correct amount. If you are taking too much then it isn't 'not enough' you are taking too much

Were you taking the exact prescribed dose - or was it not enough because you were having to take more to ease the pain?

Talk to your GP. The road you're heading down isn't a pleasant one.

WandaVision2 · 07/10/2021 17:00

Kindly, you sound like you are addicted to codeine

CurryLover55 · 07/10/2021 18:07

Can anyone answer my question?

I don't think anyone will enable you to proceed further with an opiate addiction.

Kindly, you are an addict and need to get help.

iklboo · 07/10/2021 18:09

Sorry, sweetheart, but we're not going to enable you on this. Panicking about a different chemist being able to see what meds you're on suggests you may have a problem with codeine. Absolutely no judgement, I promise. A lot of us have been there.

Please speak your GP.

I believe they'd have to notify your doctor about controlled medication; yes. I believe it changed last year or the year before, and before that, you got the choice.

I'd second speaking to your GP. I hope you're okay; addiction is hard Flowers

Did you order your medicine via a company such as Pharmacy2U or Echo? If so, you may order your prescription via them, but the prescription still has to go to your gp for him/her to issue and approve. The doctors will be aware how much you are ordering and will not prescribe extra, as codeine is highly addictive.

As others have said, as you are concerned about pharmacies knowing your prescription history, you are already on the slippery slope. You need to speak to your gp and discuss this, and possibly consider an alternative or additional painkiller.

In answer to your question, I don’t believe that pharmacies have patient’s histories of prescription orders dispensed at other pharmacies. However, that’s not really the issue here. The issue is that you are not getting enough pain relief from your current medication and/or developing a codeine addiction (maybe without realising it). You need to speak to your gp.

Be very careful OP. If you are using online private consultation and prescription services not linked to the NHS, some sail very close to the wind in terms of UK regulatory requirements and safeguarding . Some pharmacies will refuse to accept prescriptions from these
services. I would really caution against using this type of service to circumvent going to the GP. It is a slippery and expensive slope to addiction and long term problems. Some services even send text reminders encouraging re-ordering with a discount which surely must be unethical when dealing with addictive substances.

I do sympathise though if you are struggling with pain. I think you need to go back to GP. Hope things work out for you.
