Currently in hospital, while on holiday, with a inflamed gallbladder, and I'm also nil by mouth! My husband has our 2 girls while I am here, and we should be going home on Friday!

Hello sorry to hear about your gallbladder. Do you have a window nearby you can look out of? What's your favourite song?

Letsallscreamatthesistene · 06/10/2021 19:27

Urgh how painful. Do you have those tv thingys that are with each bed? If so, Ridley Road is a good watch

winterescape · 06/10/2021 19:29

Oh I am sorry to hear this. It happened to me on holiday just over 3 years ago.

Do you have books to read and are you on holiday in the Uk?

tortiecat · 06/10/2021 19:51

Oh I am so sorry. What appalling timing. Are they managing your pain well? How old are your DC? Are you far from home? Hope things get better for you very soon. Thanks

TOWG · 06/10/2021 20:03

Thanks everyone, they have got on top of pain now, children are 3 and 3 months, my 3 year old got upset when she realised mummy had to stay, we are 150 miles from home! No books and no tv

No books or tv?! Good lord. Where are you?

SmintyHinty · 06/10/2021 20:10

Poor you that sounds rough.
I quite like looking at web cams around the world. Or go on YouTube and there are city walks you can watch which feels like you're there!

SalsaLove · 06/10/2021 20:14

What about browsing on Pinterest or Instagram for autumn baking or crafts that you and your three year old could do when you come home? You could show her/him the pictures to get them excited about it.

Ooh the city walk sounds nice.

Glad they are on top of the pain.

Thurlow · 06/10/2021 20:15

Oh, how rubbish. You need to fall down a Rightmove rabbit hole, imagining you had 3m to spend but being reeeeeally picky…

SalsaLove · 06/10/2021 20:16

Sorry, just saw you have girls 😆

Could your husband not buy a couple of books for you. Or do you have the Kindle app on your phone that you can download some book to
TOWG · 07/10/2021 00:27

I feel asleep after not sleeping much the night before! I have just been moved to a new ward, which is the surgery ward! I was hoping I would be able to go to my home hospital if I needed surgery turns out not! No one has told me I was defo gonna have surgery!

OP posts:
TOWG · 07/10/2021 04:55

Anyone awake? Just woken up and am really nervous, if I have to have surgery here!

OP posts:
redferrari · 07/10/2021 05:04

Hi they would discuss it with you and you can make a decision based on the situation. Hope you feel better

Izzy24 · 07/10/2021 05:06

Hello!

You poor thing! I’m sorry it looks like you might be having surgery- is there a nurse you can ask so you know for sure?
Keyhole gall bladder surgery today could still mean going home on Friday. A friend had that operation earlier this year and could have gone home the same day ( he chose to stay the night as he lives alone).

This time next week you’ll be tucked up safe and sound in your own bed .

Hobbitch · 07/10/2021 05:08

I'm here. Totally understand how you're feeling. I hope you get clarification soon, maybe they put you on that ward just so they're prepared if you get worse. Fingers crossed you will get better and discharged!

Cantchooseaname · 07/10/2021 05:09

In awake!! Must be an awful feeling- away from home and support on top of being poorly.
Try to distract yourself fir an hour- kindle app is a good shout, or some mindless puzzle games? Once you have more facts you can make some decisions,
Hang in there!!

SinoohXaenaHide · 07/10/2021 05:13

Hello

That's very grim. I hope all well soon.

No books is torture. If you download the kindle app onto your phone, there are usually loads of books that can be downloaded either free or for £0.01 - the difficulty is finding good quality ones but there are gems to be found. Reading on a phone screen isn't easy but with a reasonable text font size its ok and better than no books at all.

WeepySheepy · 07/10/2021 06:12

Morning OP Flowers

sashh · 07/10/2021 06:30

Where are you OP?

On the subject of books, project Guttenberg has free e books you could read on your phone.

Talk tot he Dr about surgery, they can't force you to have surgery you have the last say but would you really want to be travelling home in so much pain?

Some hospitals have accommodation available for family so find out if your dh and dds can stay near you.

PermanentTemporary · 07/10/2021 06:34

What a rubbish situation. Hope you've got some games to enjoy on your phone. Im a geoguessr fan. Would someone from the ward at least go to get you a magazine or paper?

IamJuliaJohnson · 07/10/2021 06:35

Oh OP that sounds awful for you. Where are you? Maybe some posters can reassure you of their experience of the hospital.

It is up to you whether you have surgery there or at home, you do have to consent. But your choice would be to drive home in excruciating pain, with a gallbladder issue and then have to try and get in to your local hospital, or have the surgery and then travel home. But I get that it’s stressful as it’s adding time to your holiday perhaps. Could your DH get the kids home to family and come back for you?

HalfShrunkMoreToGo · 07/10/2021 06:48

I was admitted mid September with inflamed/infected gallbladder and ended up having it out as an emergency. Honestly if they offer to take it out just do it. I know it's not great for you that it's not your local hospital but the surgery is quick and once it's out the pain is gone. You have some pain from the surgery itself but it's nothing compared to the gallbladder pain.

HalfShrunkMoreToGo · 07/10/2021 07:22

Also, if the surgery goes well then you would likely be discharged within 24 hours. I had to stay 48 hrs because the gallbladder was infected and had spread goop around so they had to do a bit of a wash out and leave me with a drain fitted for that couple of days but that's not standard.
