But what's a good job application to interview rate? Also, how many jobs do you apply for on a normal day if you're an active jobseeker?

Are you currently unemployed or being made redundant, or do you just fancy a change?

When I was being made redundant I just wanted a job so I'd apply to 10-15 a day.

When I've actively searched for a new, next step kind of job, I'd only apply when I saw a job I actually wanted and I'd put proper effort into the application so maybe 2-3 a week.

I was made redundant about 10 days ago. Last time I was unemployed thanks to redundancy, I applied for almost every job under the sun, something I regret as that lead to a whole year of underemployment.

If you can afford to take your time definitely do!

If you’re tailoring your personal statement to meet the criteria of each job description then you probably aren’t going to be able to send out more than two good applications per day. But if you’re writing a good personal statement and really thinking about coming across as a good candidate then you’re much more likely to be invited to interview than if you just use the scattergun approach and send out a non-tailored CV and statement to 20 employers every day.

The way I'm doing it is... I have a fairly good CL that covers most bases for most similar jobs. The ones I really one the job, I tailor it completely to each and every role.

So one of the roles that I applied for yesterday, has now changed of spec and they got in touch with me informing me of this. Is that a good sign? They've let me know I can adjust my application or leave it the same. In a way the new role is closer to my CV, but I think in the long run less money involved.

Yes, I think that’s a good sign: they’ve seen and read your application, like the sound of you and want to give you a chance to show you meet the required criteria.

Orangejuicemarathoner · 05/10/2021 18:58

generally I think 10 applications for an interview, and 10 interviews for a job, but there are a lot of places you can just send your CV along to: I would not count that as an application. I would say probably one decent application a day. It takes me about 4 hours

Was it an end of furlough redundancy?

I think a huge peak in reduncies was expected when the government furlough scheme ended at the end of September. That may put you at a disadvantage with regards to the huge numbers of job candidates.

You should have qualified for a tax free redundancy pay out? (depending on how long you were in the role)

You may also be entitled to Universal credit or New Style Job Seekers Allowance while looking for work. My UC work coach was very helpful- she helped tailor my cv for each role, advised on cover letters and I was able to choose online courses from the digital college which were paid for by UC, while I was job hunting.

Good luck with your job search Flowers

Thanks @orange a lot of them are the standard CV + CL so I think standard documents with maybe a standard cover letter with a tailored paragraph should suffice. @Clare no I was made redundant thanks to the terrible business acumen/planning of my former boss.
