My sister has just had one In her new kitchen. I think the lack of draining board annoys her a bit.

Cazziebo · 04/10/2021 20:12

Love mine. Wouldn't have anything else. Lovely big, deep sink that you can fill buckets in, wash oven pans and soup pots.

Mine doesn't chip and every now and again I bleach the dishtowels and cloths in it. That keeps it bright and shiny.

Ducksareruiningmypatio · 04/10/2021 20:13

You will break a lot of things in it.
I get back ache washing up with one because they are so deep and you have to bend more.
They look amazing though

Look up blanco sinks op, very simple clever design it has a ledge inside the sink with rails so it becomes a draining board if you want one n

Evenstar · 04/10/2021 20:23

I have one in my utility room for cleaning dirty boots, sluicing soiled laundry or pet bedding and bathing dogs. I honestly wouldn’t want one as my main kitchen sink for the reasons PP have said, no drainer and back ache.

FriedaKleinsCat · 04/10/2021 20:28

We’ve had one for a short while.
Pros: it looks nice, it fits a lot in
Cons: it’s harder to clean than a normal sink, the lack of draining board is really annoying, I have broken three mugs
Overall I’m kind of on the fence about it - I do like the way it looks but we’ve ended up with a draining board on top of the work surface and it’s a bit awkward. I did not think it through.

Lovingmylife · 04/10/2021 20:35

Thanks all. That's interesting and very useful to think it through a bit more knowing what you've all said.

Had a double butler for the last 5 years. I love it. Super practical, doesn't hurt my back and I've never broken anything in it. Might help that I mostly bung stuff in the dishwasher though.

I have grooves in the worktop for draining things and can also drain stuff in the second sink if I want.

GellerYeller · 04/10/2021 20:41

We had one for nearly twenty years. DH loved it. It was a bit chipped in the base by the end of its life but he loved that you could nearly brim it with washing up and it couldn't be seen over the top as it was so deep Angry. Drove me mad. No backache but we are tall. It was set under a wolden worktop and the rim just underneath the wood couldn't be cleaned. Kitchen fitter warned me I'd be shocked when he took it out. It was filthy. Blush.

LuluJakey1 · 04/10/2021 20:42

We have a double one but the second sink is half the size. I love it. Not having a drainer doesn't bother me - everything goes in the dishwasher.

I clean it with this powder stuff called 'Bar Keeper's Friend' once a week but if I wash anything in washing liquid in it that also makes it all sparkly.

Randomneim · 04/10/2021 20:46

hard no, especially if you're tall. They look nice but are useless for a number of reasons. They massive, so they're very water-wasteful and you need a washing up bowl, which is a faff and has to be kept clean and dry itself. It's easy to break things. If you're tall you're leaning over heaps. The tap handles tend to be placed in such a way that you drip water on the tiles while turning them on and off and that water then gathers behind. Avoid!!

Randomneim · 04/10/2021 20:47

also they're hard to keep clean and look gross very quickly.

corblimeygov · 04/10/2021 20:57

Back ache if you are taller than 5'5".

Fozzleyplum · 04/10/2021 20:59

I have a double one, which I love. I have a wire drying rack in one side.

JazzerMcCreary · 04/10/2021 21:00

Don’t get one if you actually like your crockery 😂

ShipwreckSunset · 04/10/2021 21:12

Love it and almost regret not having one in utility room. V practical for washing big pots and pans. We don’t do much washing up in it though, everything goes in dishwasher. Might be annoying if you used for regular washing up all the time with no draining board but not an issue for us. Not found it terribly difficult to keep clean and def not had any issues with back ache - I’m not at the sink that long!Grin

Clymene · 04/10/2021 21:16

I have had one for 20 odd years (different houses). I wouldn't want another kind of sink. I love that it's so deep. I've bathed babies and small children in mine, I still bath my dog in it. Have never broken a thing.

Clymene · 04/10/2021 21:17

And never chipped it. I'm 5'4"

pussycatlickinglollyices · 04/10/2021 21:21

We've a "normal" sink in the kitchen and a Belfast in the back of the garage my utility room I'd love a big butler sink in the kitchen, but it would involve a lot of faff with plumbing, worktops, cabinets...possibly a new kitchen 🤞
Go for it...and if you hate it you can send it to me Grin

Oh, seeing as other posters are mentioning personal details, I'm 5'4" and a pisces

squee123 · 04/10/2021 22:40

Neither 5ft 7 me or 6ft 3 husband get back ache.

We don't use a washing to bowl and I'm baffled at what everyone is doing to break so much stuff.

Babyroobs · 04/10/2021 22:48

We have one. It's a pain to clean.

TheDogsMother · 04/10/2021 22:54

We've had one in a previous kitchen and wouldn't again. It looked quite rough quite quickly and it was very easy to break stuff. We do have one just outside the back door though with hot and cold water and it's great for soaking big pans and bathing Jack Russells Grin

londonmummy1966 · 04/10/2021 22:57

Love mine - its set so the edges are above the work surface rather than below so I don't get backache. Just make sure that you get an extra high arch tap so that you can fill up anything you want to. Mine is 20+ years old and still looks lovely and shiny when cleaned and hasn't chipped.

Skysblue · 04/10/2021 23:23

We love ours, haven’t broken anything in it or chipped anything yet. You do need to think about worktop options though. We used Minerva and had draining board grooves put in around the belfast sink. Looks great!

(Many kitchen shops suggest wood around the sink because it’s cheap, east to fit and looks fantastic. I’ve seen sooo many houses where this was done and mould appears around the taps within weeks - wouldn’t recommend that.)

birdglasspen · 05/10/2021 00:26

Not with a wooden worktop, ours is black with mould, disgusting. Like the sink though just wish it wasn’t with wooden worktop!
