Or is it just me?
Our local one is limiting to £30, no cans (because the staff haven't got the time to make sure they're approved ones) - fair enough.
But of course, people are doing as they wish.
The poor guy in there looked stressed as hell, and told me amongst other things he's been told to fuck off today.
I just don't get why people feel the need to behave like that. 🤷🏻‍♀️
(Before you ask, yes I actually did need fuel and was grateful to get some. HaloGrin)

During the first weekend of it all I got called a “stupid fucking cunt” before 8am in the morning. I was working not filling up. Trying to calm down the sheeple was not at all enjoyable.

That's what it's been like for retail workers all through covid I'm afraid

We are putting up signs asking people to refrain from abusing our staff at my place of work

Ilikewinter · 04/10/2021 18:39

Yes the general public can act like complete arseholes because they know that the staff wont retaliate.
We also have signs up in store saying we don't tolerate verbal or physical harassment.
Working in retail is just shit at the minute - infact that probably goes for any customer facing role.

Like other posters have said, this is the reality working in retail. Especially in a supermarket.

A lot of customers are lovely, but there also a lot of customers who aren't lovely. A lot of them think of supermarket workers as something as bad as what could be stuck on the bottom of their shoe, working in the first lockdown was the only time those customers were even slightly kind to us.

Since the first lockdown ended, the entitled and unpleasant side of customers has come back. One customer demanded that I pack his bags for him and when I refused, he said "Isn't that your job?". It's not, nor will it ever be unless I worked in America, where they are expected to do it. But then American supermarket workers aren't allowed to sit down while on the tills, even when nine months pregnant, because American customers apparently think it makes the workers lazy. So it could be worse.

We have signs up asking people not to abuse us, it doesn't do anything. The hourly rate is above NMW, but it is not worth putting up with the abuse that we get from people every day.

I distinctly remember a glorious fortnight early on in the pandemic where customers were being lovely and not treating retail staff like shit. That’s how long it lasted. Nothing has made me more convinced the average person is likely to be both stupid and unpleasant than retail work. And whilst likely to be considered ageist on here, it is absolutely a Gen X and Boomer generations issue in the main.

Sympathies to anyone who has to deal with people like this.
It's a sad reflection of what a considerable proportion of our population have come to. Sad
