What do you do with your stuff when you're on a beach?

For example, phone and maybe bank card? I really want to do some snorkelling with DH but obviously don't want to leave our stuff on an unknown holiday beach?

I think if it was just a couple of hours we wouldn't need these extra bits. But if you go all day...?

You can buy waterproof cases for phones that can go round your neck, can put keys and bank card in too

samwitwicky · 04/10/2021 18:03

Something like this?

sleepykits · 04/10/2021 18:04

@BakingOfTheFoodCats have you tried them? Any recommendations for what works? Thanks!

bank card goes in my swimming costume bra under wetsuit.

phone goes in a waterproof phone case in a dry bag.

FlibbertyGiblets · 04/10/2021 18:07

Waterproof cases.
Or little lockable barrels, you take the key and leave the barrel.

Tbh we have never had stuff taken, nice binos, kindle, wallet all stuffed in a flexi bucket under the towels. In later years we had Nanna parked up in a foldy chair to oversee any cheeky bastards (she was disappointed perhaps, not to have been able to shake her stick at someone!)

Adelino · 04/10/2021 18:08

I don't do this but saw a suggestion to wrap stuff in a nappy/ nappy bag near your towels etc.
I suppose there is a (small) danger of a good samaritan picking it up and binning it, but I think it's a good idea.

I’ve used waterproof phone cases and belts cases when snorkelling from a beach. From a boat is easier obvs.
Long multi cove snorkelling trips I’ve used a float (fluorescent so visible o boats) which is also a dry bag ad hav stuffed small towel water and food there.

TheLeadbetterLife · 04/10/2021 18:11

I leave them in the car and just take a bit of cash in a waterproof bag if I think I’ll need it (eg for ice cream, beers).

We all managed a day at the beach before mobiles.

WoMandalorian · 04/10/2021 18:12

Wrap it up in the nappy and bury it under your beach towels?

HeronLanyon · 04/10/2021 18:13

Yes I often leave my phone. Bought a great underwater camera which also has a sim and acts as very basic emergency phone. Just clip to a belt loop.

We won't have a car.

Yes I don't have a problem not taking s mobile but it is nice to take a few pics etc.

I don't tale anything I'd be devastated to lose. Just enough cash for the day.

Maybe this is the way!

I will look at some waterproof cases though.

When I go open water swimming we all put our stuff in ziplock bags inside our tow floats.

BlackeyedSusan · 04/10/2021 18:20

Dry bag on back, containing two small microfibre towels, two thin coats three fleeces, a pack of biscuits and a can of pop some change in a plastic bag and a phone in a dry pouch.

beach mats and spades left on the beach as they are replaceable.

Bunchymcbunchface · 04/10/2021 18:28

Waterproof cases
Also the portable travel safe. They’re pretty hard to smash and would attract a fair bit of attention if someone was smashing one.
Obviously you need something solid and immovable to attach the cable too - like a permanent parasol.

sleepykits · 04/10/2021 18:33

Just ordered these to have a play with... very good reviews but I'll reserve judgement!

We use those waterproof bags like you've ordered, also at waterparks. Stick a bit of cash in there too.

gunnersgold · 04/10/2021 18:50

Waterproof case for cards and phone . Only take necessities!

OtherInfo · 04/10/2021 18:50

I'm wary of waterproof cases for phones since DS' phone was ruined when he spent a couple of hours on carpark marshall duty in the rain with his phone in his pocket.

The waterproof cover seemed to let the water in but not out. I suspect the phone would have survived just fine if it had just been in his pocket and the case made things much worse.

Was this user error on the part of DS and they are usually effective?

sleepykits · 04/10/2021 19:04

@OtherInfo I'll risk my work phone in it 😂

Well I've been on water rides and wave pools with mine in a bag and it was fine. I do pop, pop and pop the seal again yo make super sure it's sealed. I suppose there is a possibility some bags are better than others but they can work absolutely fine.
BlackeyedSusan · 04/10/2021 21:22

the waterproof cases like the op has ordered do not let any water in if sealed properly. they are air tight and water tight. You are advised to test them before use. I use mine in a dry bag as well. double layer. We use the oldest most replacable phone.
