Why are the police not arresting the protesters blocking roads?

I don’t understand why they’re just standing there while they’re blocking the roads
I’ve seen a video today of the police dragging them to the pavement but by the time the police have walked back on to the road to get another person the first one has just walked and sat back down
Why are they not throwing them into the back of a van?!
I genuinely don’t understand

I support the cause but their actions are wrongly targeted and causing public focus on their actions not the cause.

@jlpartnerrs

I support them. They are trying to highlight that the fact is that if we do not get on and reduce our carbon footprint asap our children / grandchildren will have an awful life and death on a planet not fit for human habitation. Why do you think the Elon Musks of this world are investing so heavily in space?
I can bet they aren't getting in your way or affecting your daily life.
DietCokeChipsAndMayo · 04/10/2021 17:28

Are they physically gluing them selves to the road??? How did I miss that?
Jesus they are massive twats 🤦🏻‍♀️

Orangejuicemarathoner · 04/10/2021 17:29

because it is a legal protest

Orangejuicemarathoner · 04/10/2021 17:30

and given the number of deaths on the roads, there is a good chance that the protests have saved more deaths and injuries than they have caused

gardeninggirl68 · 04/10/2021 17:31

how is jetting off to space helping our planet?

and also, which new planet will he be inflicting carnage on?

just a 'good chance'?

They are not going to care what you think. They will have specific targets, and it won't matter to them what the public think of them. It will only matter what the policy makers think, and it is hitting them hard
jlpartnerrs · 04/10/2021 17:32

They aren't affecting my life because I don't drive. I gave up my car two years ago WRT global warming. I commute by bike and public transport.

I would still support them even if I did drive. You're angry at the wrong people. The government are supposed to protect us and plan for the future. By subsidising fossil fuels and failure to implement substantial policies they are going to be responsible for killing our children/grandchildren indirectly by their inaction.

You support them preventing ambulances getting to patients/hospital???

we need to develop our space programme, we need to be in a position to watch for Near Earth Objects, and we need to be in a position to divert any likely to cause and extinction level event.

Or we will eventually go the same way as the dinosaurs

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 04/10/2021 17:35

Actually don’t think I could restrain myself from running one over if they stopped infront of my car- utterly Disgusting bunch of twats

Orangejuicemarathoner · 04/10/2021 17:35

I think they are incredibly brave, and making a massive sacrifice. They are risking their health, their lives ,their livelihoods, and their freedom to protect the planet

mumwon · 04/10/2021 17:36

I understand the reason for protesting but NOT when you might put others life at risk - or their work/jobs - or stopping medical or paramedics or dentists from getting to work
or a man who was on his way to do house insulation!
I imagine some getting stuck & needing the loo (delays at the black wall tunnel happen frequently & I have been stuck there recently... not nice)
nb carry some nail polish remover it breaks down the glue they use to stick themselves to surfaces or a nice bucket of water.

jlpartnerrs · 04/10/2021 17:38

I support them in their aims which is to highlight the global climate catastrophe that we are all blindly walking towards.

If we don't wake up - it will be many many people dying and there will be no infrastructure/health service or ambulances.

You need to take that anger and shout at the politicians - we pay them to protect us, not big business.

gardeninggirl68 · 04/10/2021 17:38

@Orangejuicemarathoner extinction by meteorite? well that would solve it once and for all

Bollocks would you do this. You'd ruin your own life, and your family's.
GreenTeaPingPong · 04/10/2021 17:46

1.1%
The UK produces 1.1% of global emissions.
Demonstrate re international agreements that China, USA, Russia etc have to keep to. Not insulating people's lofts in the UK. We don't have a separate bit of global warming over SE England that you can affect. It's truly global and the only solution is global.

Spudlet · 04/10/2021 17:49

Yeah, the people saying they’d run one over - no you wouldn’t, don’t be so bloody silly. Hmm

However I do feel a bit sceptical about the idea that this is putting pressure on policy makers. Public anger seems pretty firmly aimed at the protestors rather than at the government. As long as that remains the case I don’t see why this would lead to any major changes. 🤷‍♀️

Tealightsandd · 04/10/2021 17:52

@Peridot1

I’m surprised one of them hasn’t been run over yet. I’d be tempted. Very tempted. Slowly. But if I was first car in the queue I would just drive at them very slowly with my hand on the horn. Damn selfish idiots.

Why don’t they protest at Westminster? Makes more sense than pissing people off and potentially causing harm to others.

Westminster? So blocking roads and causing traffic delays - including ambulances to the extremely busy central London hospitals that serve a densely populated community? (You do know that MPs, like most people, don't live in or particularly care about their workplace?).

How about they stop being so southern centric and protest up north for a change?

They're disgusting. That poor woman trying to get to her mum in hospital.

TidyDancer · 04/10/2021 17:52

Lots of people are sympathetic wrt the core issue. The group are disgusting and should be ashamed of their behaviour though.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 04/10/2021 17:52

lannistunut no honestly I get such a rage about these people and if I was in the car with my baby for example not sure I could stop myself.
The people protesting are a generation that used used used all the resources on this planet without thought, the U.K. is doing well trying to tackle climate change, the younger generations are more aware and conscious than these haggard baby boomers fucking us all over because they don’t have the balls to protest outside the China embassy

Twentypast · 04/10/2021 17:54

The UK is not in the top 20 countries producing carbon emissions. Maybe they should be protesting outside the US, Chinese or Iranian embassies.

Zeflyinghelmetandzevetcelery · 04/10/2021 17:54

I think they're incredibly stupid. They're not targeting the right people. They're not helping their cause, they're alienating people from their cause by their actions. Frankly it's only a matter of time before a frustrated motorist gives someone a kicking.

gardeninggirl68 · 04/10/2021 17:54

anyone else wondering which glue they are using?? fabric to tarmac?
