Would you cook and eat out of date chicken

Bought all ingredients to make a curry, thought I had chicken, but it went out of date yesterday.

Would you still cook it in the curry and eat.

I'd nip back to shop but it will be a hassle, I have 2 young dc, DH has the car and it's raining.

Well it looked okay and didn't smell funny, and is currently in the slow cooker...thanks for all replies...I'll let you know what it tastes like

I would and I have. I was told by someone who works for a big poultry processing firm that the use by date builds in a day’s leeway. So, as long as it looked and smelled fine, I’d cook it without hesitation.

One day, yes.

But I think if it isn't smelly or gooey then you're all good
🤮

Wolfiefan · 04/10/2021 22:53

Yuck! You can smell if it’s rotten. You can’t smell all the little organisms that could make you so ill you could end up in hospital.
So no. Not a chance.

IndecentCakes · 05/10/2021 03:46

Don't think you're supposed to 'give it a wash under the tap'!

Mickarooni · 06/10/2021 20:32

@tenredthings

You can always give it a wash under the tap first just in case.

Please don’t wash chicken. It increases your risk of infection.

Strugglingtodomybest · 06/10/2021 20:34

I would, and quite often do.

HarrisMcCoo · 06/10/2021 20:35

No.

Bluntness100 · 06/10/2021 20:37

God th slow cookers the worst idea. I’d not eat it but if I did I’d cremate it in the oven.

cocavino · 06/10/2021 20:38

Yes, of course. I find it bizarre that some people here would just chuck it out without so much as a sniff

cocavino · 06/10/2021 20:41

And people who are talking about campylobacter: do you eat your chicken raw? Because heat kills it Confused

Bluntness100 · 06/10/2021 21:08

It’s not just campylobacter it’s also salmonella and clostridium. And she’s not exactly nuking it in thr slow cooker.
PlanetTeaTime · 06/10/2021 21:08

Yes, I have a good sense of smell so as long as it wasn't bad I would

TractorAndHeadphones · 06/10/2021 21:12

@myusernamewastakenbyme

Do people not rely on common sense anymore?? Astounded at the amount of people who just throw stuff away without using their sense of smell or taste...god knows how any of our ancestors survived without dates printed on food packaging.
Especially as supermarkets aren’t infallible! They take a conservative estimate. And in our case the fridge is so cold food takes ages to defrost and stays fresh longer anyway…
