Talk to me about duvets

Posting here for traffic.

I need to buy a new light weight duvet but don't really know where to start. I grew up in the days of feather duvets which have a certain comforting weight about them. But are there any good and clearly more ethical alternatives?

I have had two top of the range wool duvets - nice in the heavy weight winter version but the summer version was almost like two pieces of cotton quilted together with a thin layer of wool wadding between.

I have bought various microfibre duvets for the children over the years - again the heavier weight ones seem better. There have been a few horrors including a bounce back one which didn't mould at all around the body even my DS hated it.

I know I am looking at a lightweight duvet but I want something with some feeling of weight on the body (not liked a weighted blanket). Any recommendations?

Wool. I’ve got a summer one to help with hot flushes. It still has a feeling of weight.

I have a medium weight wool duvet, and if I feel like a bit of extra weight or when it’s colder, I put a crochet blanket on top.

@MinnieMountain - what weight is a summer one? I will be coming into the menopause at some point soon as mid 40s.

I've given up on duvets - too hot and unwieldy.

I have a micofibre reversible comforter now - or two which I alternate. No covers to bother with and they go in the washing machine and dry very quickly.

We have this and it is lovely to sleep under. Cost an arm and a leg though!

4.5 tog I think.

I put a wool blanket on top in the colder weather, so it’s easy to layer.

I use a silk one - 3 tog I think. It was quite pricey at about £150 but it's lovely
