Grimm's rainbow...worth it?

I have a nearly 2 to and have been coveting the Grimm's large rainbows.
Are they worth spending nearly £70 on?
I am in two minds

We had a small one which cost £15 (it wasn’t made by Grimm’s). It got played with a lot when the dc were at the right age. I definitely don’t think a bigger one would have been any better and quite frankly I don’t think we’d have the room for it. So save yourself £55 and get a smaller one.

I’d say they’re worth it. We have one - bought for my DD’s first Christmas but only the smaller 5 colour one (around £28 I think?) and it is still played with a lot age 3.5. It surprises me how much imaginative play she gets out of it! I was tempted by the aethstetic as much as anything if I’m totally honest, but it’s been worth it. Now we have a second DC I’m sure it’s got a few more years of use and I’d probably have invested in the bigger one if I’d known how much it would be played with.

I have a two and four year old and we have the rainbow and it's used daily. Really recommend the planks and semi circles too.

I bought two in the end. My kids use them a lot, and I like to do the challenges with DH when we have opened a bottle of wine. I love ours and will never get rid of it!

Well worth it.

And grimms dye their wood rather than paint it, which is better for kids who put it in their mouths.

AmanitaRubescens · 04/10/2021 05:32

Not worth £70 unless you're an instagrammer and want to photograph it in your DC's carefully staged bedroom Smile Cheaper ones are available.

Tulipmonster · 04/10/2021 05:38

We got our DD one for her first birthday. It sat largely unused for about a year but now gets used for decent sessions a couple of times a week. Like a PP I’ve been surprised by the range of play DD finds for it, and it looks bloody lovely when it’s not being used. Recommend.

Grimm's rainbow...worth it?

Those cheaper ones say “smooth to the touch” but the Grimms have a rougher surface which makes them easier to stack and build as they don’t slide…
Grimms are worth it and hold their value for resale you would get around 70-80% of their value.

Lemonlemon88 · 04/10/2021 08:26

Ours has got a bit more battered then i expected, i was surprised! It scratches very easily

Marmite27 · 04/10/2021 08:27

No, ours was barely used.

It looks pretty though.

We were lucky enough to win one of the 12 piece Grimm’s rainbows when DS was around 18 months old. He turns 6 this week and still plays with it frequently. Yes, they are expensive, but to be honest even though we didn’t pay for ours in the end, I’d still be more than happy to pay £70 for a toy that has now been used regularly for 4 and a half years!

Miserablewithweight · 04/10/2021 08:35

Worth it in our house. I thought they were just for Instagram as another poster said so got a cheaper version to start with but it wasn’t very good … got the 12 piece one and it’s played with pretty much every day. Kids love watching me try different stacking ideas off Google but also seems to get included in play with all our other toys like cards, dolls. Shapes etc.

I guess it depends on your kids and what they enjoy.

SarahAndQuack · 04/10/2021 09:13

I found the one of the most pointless toys we got.

They're not particularly good for building and don't require much imagination - there's quite a low limit to what you can do and after that, it's very same old same old. DD enjoyed the box more.

DinosaurOfFire · 04/10/2021 09:17

I found it really good. My kids use it to stack, to build houses and hotels for their toys, for bridges over train tracks, for animal pens for their schleich animals. We also got the Grimms blocks and building boards, and some cheaper semicircles off amazon, which has meant they have a lot more scope with the rainbow. Even now at 4, 6 and 9, my kids will play with it and weve had it for 3 years or so.
