Is there a sat nav that has a setting to avoid narrow country roads? Or a trick to make mine avoid them!?

Just that really.

After another horrific journey where I had to reverse for about a mile as there was no passing place I’m feeling pretty traumatised. Blush

I live in South Norfolk and we have a lot of very narrow one lane country roads and I have a new Kia with built in sat nav - without fail every time I use it it takes me down the most obscure routes, often turning off a lovely A road to take me down a 3 mile stretch of dirt road only to rejoin the same A road later on…!

Obviously I do check the route beforehand but sometimes I get pretty lost, I’m human.

There is a setting to avoid motorways but no setting I can see to stick to A roads and main roads! Am i missing a trick?

Is there a way to do this or does anyone have an amazing sat nav / app that allows me to do this?!

Lots of good apps here!

My Sat Nav has 3 routing modes, scenic (so will love little country lanes), shortest (some stupid lane usage), and fastest (really prefers big A roads).

The problem is a lot of these lanes are categorized as 'open' speed limit, and unless your satnav has an option to say you're 'towing' it will just think they are as quick as an A road, or a wide B road.

I'm in Norfolk too and I no longer use the sat nav if I can avoid it. I use Waze if I must but I'm sick of being sent down dirt tracks. I had to drive down the A47 recently and had the satnav on for the v end bit of the journey as I wasn't sure exactly where I was going but knew the A47 would take me to the desired town in a straight line. It's set to quickest route and lo and bloody behold, screeching at me to leave the A47 at every available opportunity, down dirt tracks in a loop and back onto the A47. Of course, I know to ignore it and the most galling thing? Every time I ignored it, the journey time DECREASED. I know a lot of the problem is that it just classifies all NSL roads as having been created equal but when it can't even choose the fastest route when asked, I refuse to use it.

Actual paper maps as far as possible here.
