Episiotomy pain 5 weeks postpartum?

Hello, just wondered if anyone else has experienced something similar - had an episiotomy and tear 5 weeks ago and discharged by midwives as they said stitches were healing fine. Had hemorrhoids after delivery which still haven't gone anyway but recently in the last week or so have had very sharp pains towards the left side of my butt after a bowel movement and the pain lasts for hours afterwards. Went to the gp and she couldn't find anything apart from hemorrhoids and gave suppositories but they're not doing much good. I did tell her it was towards the left side and so maybe it's to do with the episiotomy when cut diagonally. I was sure it was a fissure because of the type of pain. I'm still in pain and have to wait another week for a follow up appointment. It's not completely unbearable pain but struggling to look after little one as it hurts to sit and terrified of going to the loo! Anyone else had this pain following episiotomy ?x

Hey I had exactly the same issue! At my 6 (which was actually 8) week check up my GP checked me and couldnt find anything. I've been told it can take up to 6 months for the pain to go and if not they will investigate!im nearly 10 weeks post now and the pain has pretty much gone -I think sometimes it just takes a little longer. Hope you feel better soon x

I had this although my stitches became infected about 5 days after the birth. A few weeks later the GP put silver nitrate on it to help heal the wound. Yours could be scar tissue which will take time to heal but do keep getting it checked out if it’s causing you pain.

With my first episiotomy it did take quite a while to not feel sore, particularly when sitting. With my second episiotomy where like you I also tore, I had infected stitches so maybe ask for an urgent midwife appointment etc to get that checked. Within a couple of days of antibiotics it was feeling much better.

Thanks all, feel better knowing I'm not the only one as felt deflated after going to the gp and her being able to find anything causing the pain. She did send off a swab to test for infection but I still haven't heard back and this was a week ago.
@Cantgetausername87 glad you're feeling better - I hope mine doesn't take as long as 6 months! I can't deal with the excruciating pain of going for a poo for much longer!

@RuthW wow 6 months..and there was me in the hospital being told shouldn't take longer than 6 weeks to heal! How did you manage with the pain during that time?

It takes a long time. imagine if you'd had an accident and got that injury. You wouldn't expect it to be healed in just a few weeks.

To be honest it still hurts now and then 4 years on as do other old scars.
