Work shoes for plantar faciatis

I am pretty sure I have this. I am on my feet all day and need a robust pair of shoes or trainers. I'm currently in my birkie arizonas with socks (not a great look!) and cannot continue as look unprofessional snd I actually need foot protection and its winter.

I am probably going to get some birkie clog type for work when I can get up to the shop to try them on.

Wondering if anyone has tried the sketchers arch fit? Trainer type shoes would be ideal for my job but are they just fashion items?

Or should I ho for proper orthotics?

I wore sketchers for work when I had PF and they helped.

madroid · 02/10/2021 23:12

Try ortho insoles?

PolytheneRam · 02/10/2021 23:14

My soft leather DMs cured mine, but I know thry aren't to everyone's taste. I do 12hr hospital shifts on my feet and I cqnt wear amything else without having a PF flare-up

I have awful foot pain and think it may be metatarsalgia. I've tried so many different shoes for work and spent a fortune. WalkFit Platinum Orthotics have changed my life. They are insoles to go into your shoes and I was very sceptical at first, but they are fantastic. So they now fit into my cheap shoes, which I can wear all day long. I hope this helps.

Ha. Although the quality of my typing there suggests that so many hours on my feet might be tiring me elsewhere

Vionic

moreshitandnofuckingredemption · 02/10/2021 23:17

Podiatrist told me not to wear Birks with plantar fasciitis, he said FitFlop or Crocs (!) are best. He gave me a silicone heel support which works really well, and means I can keep wearing my Converse (which he also told me off for - too flat). You can get the silicone things off Amazon. Fitflop do trainers, they might work for you?

Not sketches!!

Daisychainsandglitter · 03/10/2021 08:13

I swear by sketchers. They've really helped me.

Mistlewoeandwhine · 03/10/2021 08:14

Fit flip black trainers look very respectable - if not stylish

Fifthtimelucky · 03/10/2021 09:23

My GP recommended Fit Flop for Plantar Fasciitis about 10 years ago. I've worn nothing else and haven't any problems since.

I usually wear flip flop/slider or trainer style ones but also have a couple of smart pairs that I used to keep at work.

Gerwurtztraminer · 03/10/2021 10:34

I've got FitFlops for slightly smarter options/wearing with dresses, 2 pairs of Skechers, one for for walking/with jeans etc and the others are proper running shoes. I also have some Puma fashion trainers with SoftFoam which are very comfortable.

I find I need the softest, thickest soles available, with lots of responsive bounce., some arch support (I have very high arches) and a good fit that holds the heel in place. Also a heel drop - not totally flat but 5-10mm is enough. I do have an orthotic for running but for walking I find am OK without.

Sandals I need something with a soft footbed, good adjustable strap around the heel and over the top of the foot. Again ideally with heel drop. So not very fashionable basically. Mephisto are good but very pricey.

Can't wear Birkenstocks, the soles feel rock hard and I can feel teh PF pain even trying themon, plus as I supinate (foot rolls out, not in) my foot gets cut on the hard sharp outer edge. I simply don't understand how people wear them.

I have these in blue- I tried Sketchers, they made things worse! I wear running shoes day to day and these for work (you can get them in black too). I also have Fit flop slippers for home which are really supportive and the combination, along with exercises and a foam roller meant it settled down.

Definitely Fitflop shoes (or trainers). Skechers are comfortable but they make my plantar fasciitis worse. I haven’t been able to wear Birkenstocks for years now - I’ve had to switch to Teva walking sandals for summer, but Fitflops shoes are good for work and winter.
