Do you have days of sudden exhaustion?

Was out last night but not a wild one (anniversary dinner and tucked up in bed by midnight), I had a fairly busy but not extreme week at work (and it’s an office job so I’m not exactly down t’pit) and did two days in the office but have been doing 1/2 days for a while now.

Got up at 7 took the kids to their sports club which involved standing in the cold for 2 hours. Was knackered after lunch and ended up having a nap for 3 hours! Now practically falling asleep on the sofa.

Maybe it’s the change in the weather or getting cold or having a slightly later night. But even if I have a bit of a nap it’s normally 1.5-2 hours and then I am Spritely all evenjng. Urgh. I feel ancient.

I've had a bad week for lethargy this week op

I do have an immune disease and due to some stressful months my medication has needed to be changed as it messes my body up but I normally manage it well enough to work full time and have two dc to run around after but this end of the week has been hard work.

I've had two quieter days at work so been quite sedentary but I literally have struggled to move or get the enthusiasm together to do anything.

It's been a real drag.

Dh has felt exactly the same this week and so have a couple of work colleagues

I think the sudden temperature drop and the lack of sunshine and light really knocks me while acclimatise to it so it's probably that.

Had to go food shopping after work today so didn't get home til 8 and tea for me and dh is still cooking.

Sat in pjs with a gin waiting for tea and just enjoying the peace.

I do find the change to autumn makes me sleepier, and less motivated, so it could be time of year. But that's a VERY long nap, if I had more than an hour or so (and I don't mind a good nap), I wouldn't be able to go to sleep until past midnight.

I’ve been very tired all my life. I would have to nap at weekends and then every few weeks I would just spend a day sleeping. I’ve always had to have a sleeping day when on holiday also. I have found that I’ve got less tired as I’ve got older. Am still quite good at napping though!

Ezydoesit · 03/10/2021 09:19

My tiredness levels is invariably linked to my hormone levels. Some days I feel flattened, other days wired awake. Bloody hormones.

I feel like this last week I have been 'recovering' from 2 weeks holiday. More all the travel around the holiday I think, but I have been floored. I'm wondering if travel is now a bit beyond me.

Thanks all. Feeling much better today. I slept til 8 this morning after going to bed just after posting. Thinking it’s a combo of change in the weather/work stress/getting used to full schedule of kids clubs etc. Not much I can do other than look after myself and hang in there. I am generally fit and healthy. Bit over weight but very pretty active and I do eat well - lots of veg and home cooked food. I’ve been drinking less alcohol recently but not given up, just a bit more moderate. Might be a bit of that filtering though too.

yes. I am hypermobile and autistic, so double the reasons for fatigue.

Darkchocolateandcoffee · 03/10/2021 17:31

If it's a one off I wouldn't worry, but a three hour sleep in the day is quite a lot. I've just had a big op and even I just had an hour's sleep this afternoon, not three.

Are you anaemic maybe? Might be worth considering.

GoodnightGrandma · 03/10/2021 17:34

I find that I feel knackered the day after I’ve drunk alcohol. Getting old is no fun !

Try putting Epsom salts in a bath, it’s magnesium for energy.

Comedycook · 03/10/2021 17:34

I have the occasional day of absolute exhaustion. I fall asleep early in the evening like 5/6pm and sleep until morning. I'm like a walking zombie. Then I realised it was happening once a month and always the day before I get my period so I'm guessing it's hormonal

FreeButtonBee · 03/10/2021 18:52

@Darkchocolateandcoffee I know. It was a very long sleep even for me

Don’t think I’m anemic- I eat plenty of red meat and green veg and citrus and wasn’t even close to being low in iron even when PG with twins. But might be worth seeing if I can get a work check up/once over. I am probably due one.

Period not due for another week - bloody hope it’s not coming early!

Yes but I have a toddler who doesn’t sleep well. Alcohol makes me excessively tired as does my period.
